    Beginner questions

Hi guys, I have a 120 gal planted community tank. First off, I know not to expect any viable young....
I came home tonight to witness one of my Red Turquoise (M) and (in my opinion) my ugliest Red Melon (F) spawning. What colors would this mash up produce? Just curious about genetics. I do have a breeding/rearing tank already set up. I could easily move the pair and their spawn once their done.

Thanks for any and all input.

This happens! Most likely they will eat the eggs. If you’re thinking of breeding. Set up a 30-40g tank to use as a breeder. Read up on raising fry. Good luck.

Hi Glen, if your melon is pigeon based the resulting fry could be peppered to verifying degrees. This can happen when a non-pigeon breeds with a pigeon based mate. A lot of people will avoid rearing fry from this pairing but sometimes you can get interesting results.

        Thank you.
in the last pic you can see a 27 gal bare tank on the floor. It's been set up and running for my prolific Angels. I transferred the eggs and parents last night once they finished the spawn. We

Again dont be upset if they eat the eggs. They will breed again. Now think about what you will do with the fry. Read up on breeding discus too! Good luck!

Is it common for a pair to "double clutch"? I have a pair with fry that have been free swimming for about a week, today the are spawning again while being swarmed by feeding fry.

Hi Glenn, it is fairly common and when a pair lay eggs with fry on their back they could eat the fry.

My experience with crossing pigeon blood to turquoise is that the spawn is uniformly muddy.
At my age, everything is irritating.
