    Lighting & feeding schedule?

I'm a new owner of 5 x 3.5" discus, in a 53gallon tank with a thin layer if sand & plant in pots.

My plan is for lights to go on (very dim setting) at 7.30am, feed at 8am, lights off at 9.30am. The tank gets little daytime light, its in a darker corner. Then lights on a daytime setting at 5pm, feed 5.30pm and again at 9pm, with lights off at 10.30pm.

But... will this mess up their diurnal rhythm thingies? Does it matter if lights are on and off like that?

Nope, the discus will be fine. Unless the “dark corner” is truly black out dark, your discus will stay away during the period your lights are off during the day.
Are your potted plants low light? If not, they may suffer getting only 7 hours of light daily.

Oh, and welcome to SD. Post up some pics of your tank and fish. We’d love to see what you got going on there

Thanks! The plants should be ok in low light, but I'll watch for that. Discus arrived this afternoon, will post pictures tmrw!

I posted these elsewhere, but I like em! They're not fancy. The reflections through the tank are odd, and the little red one isn't actually that shape -shes way rounder in reality.

I only turn on the lights when I go into the fish room to work. The lights are off most of the day with only ambient light from the next room. Needless to say, I think the concept of diurnal rhythm is overrated.
At my age, everything is irritating.
