What is your recipe, Mike? I just got some pork heart from Boe's hog farm today. I put it in the freezer for now, but will turn it into fish food sometime late next week.

Looks great Mike! now shape it into patties snd toss it on the grill. Best to cook it medium or med rare as its a lean meat.

Grilling aside .. how much was the beefheart per pound and how much did you have to clean it?
Thought it might be interesting to see what beefheart costs in your area.. Was grocery shopping today and our big y supermarket had beefheart.. $5.99 lb ..uncleaned fresh beefheart. That is ridiculous when I can buy a steak for $1.00 more. Organ meat used to be a cheap protein source for aquaculture.. not anymore ,

Liz, I trimmed the fat and cartilage off with a scalpel and ground it. I food processed fish foods rich in vitamins- northfinn veggie formula, reef nutrition TDO chroma boost and some vibrabites. Then I added a healthy amount of garlic power mixed it up and ground it again using the smaller holes. I added Knox gelatin as a binder and froze it in sandwich bags.

        hope that helps!

Al- a neighbor gave it to me free! I think he’s expecting another heart so it seems I’ll be making beef heart again in the near future! The hearts didn’t have much fat. Cleaning it was easy and then cubing it for the grinder!

Hi Mike, I'm with Al, got to love free. Is your neighbor giving your beef heart or heart from a game animal like a deer. My daughter and son-in-law is enjoying deer meat from a neighbor in North Florida. I am hopeful I will get to try some venison soon
