I don't know Aaron. I think as they age we will have a better idea as to what they may be. time will tell.

Gary I am leaning toward Browns as there really no patterns on the back half of the anal fins and overall they are drab brown. I think its still early but so far thats my thought.

That's my call as well. And they're looking like they are beginning to settle in. Any chance they are Xingu?

Have you decided if they are browns or greens?

Jake thats a great question. I feel that juvenile discus grow best in barebottom tanks and with excellent biofiltration so barebottom and sponges will be how these are raised to adults. In effect they will be treated exactly like my domestic fish. Same feeds.. Discus chow primarily also with diskus Gold .Supplimented with various freeze dried foods. I won't power feed or try to rush their growth 3-4 feedings per day with enough food so they clean it up. The longer I am in this the more I realize that a diet that gets a discus huge in record time does not equate to one that promotes longevity and health in the fish.

Daily water changes are a must for me. theres 6 3.5 " discus in this 55 gal. I can do 50%-75 %wc daily with my water storage in that room. For now thats good.. as they settle in and eat more I can increase ... If I could I would do 100% daily but I am currently inundated with Ram fry and fish in QT.

Thanks for taking the time to respond Al! I figured you were going to do something similar, but better to hear it from the source. Sounds like a good approach and I really appreciate your thoughts on power feeding.

Thank you Svalbard. I will do my best to document everything.

So my first update is a bit of good news for me. Initially when I contacted the selller they told me they had around 10pcs. but when I went to order the most I could buy was 6 as that was all the cart hard listed as stock. I figured.someone beat me to them as some time had passed.

Once I received the order I went back and decided to have them notify me if more came in. Im bad about that..I think I have registed with every importer/seller thats out of stock on wilds to be notified. Wouldn't you know it.. They had 3 more instock after all. So I have three more coming from this group. I feel much better knowing I am starting with 9. Fish will be coming this up coming week if all goes well and we will have a discus reunion in the tank.. The ones I have are doing well. They are a little shy but settling in well.Im sure they will be even more comfortable when their friends rejoin them next week.

Al, just curious, but what's your gameplan for raising these fry? Trying to get them to grow as fast as possible? Large daily water changes? Only feeding discus chow? Barebottom tank with sponge filters? Would really like to read your thought process on it all.

I miss the days when discus importers offered Discus small like this regularly. Nothing beats growing them out for me.

Amen to that! That's all I've ever done and I've been so wanting to do so again. But as you say, there's not much out there. This gives me hope.

Thanks Al, I thought I found a source for some nice heckels but turns out they were scammers stealing photos from Instagram. They were "located" in Florida and I asked for a physical address and their address was an empty lot. Then they said it was a recent "construction" lol. Right, in the middle of a neighborhood lol. Brian helped to research these guys, he is really good at it lol.

At least you were smart enough to think. The number of people on Facebook to just fire hundreds of dollars to some random person on there claiming to be selling discus is WILD.
