Sure mate I will share more pics by tom after a water change. Hopefully this guy starts eating as well, tempted to give him worms but worried about water quality as I do water change every 3 days now. Mixed feeding both slow sinking pellets/granules for now

Re: Need some help with new discus

Planning a short 3 day vacation for next weekend. Whats the best way keep these guys healthy while Im not on. I don't have anyone here with any aquarium knowledge to come & check up on them that too these young sensitive group of guys. Will a big water change before leaving help a lot? They started eating well feeding them 2-3 times a day, just one shy guy yet to take food just stays alone since he came from a long transit

With my adult discus from before I used to just do a water change and come back to see everything is fine but very new to handling juveniles

Any advise would be great thanks

I would water change the day you leave, not feed for the 3 days you're away, especially since the eating has been sporadic you don't want uneaten food sitting in your tank. Feed & water change and on the day you return. They'll be fine

Yes clean the tank just before you leave. No food till you get back. They will be fine! Still waiting for those pictures .

Yes uneaten food in tank is never good. Will do a 80% water change before leaving thanks

Yes I will do a good water change on day of leaving. Just cant catch every one on phone those red discus are amazing so active & eating like crazy. Still worried about the shy guy as you can see from Pics yet to start eating just ate 2 pellets in almost 6 days now since came to the tank, 2 guys just dart away to hide behind wood/plant when ever I go near lol

Re: Need some help with new discus

I really know this is a dumb question. I have to quarantine the guy who is refusing to eat and treating him with PARACIDOL fW after advise from discus breeder from whom I got the fish.

While pouring the medicine it flipped and fell all over my fingers. I have washed it off with plenty of water/soap. Is there anything I need to worry about

                Thanks

thats a copper based medicine. At the amount you got I would not worry about you...but I am pretty concerned that the seller has you treating the fish thats not eating with copper. Copper is used for external parasites and is a very risky medication. You need to monitor concentration carefully . Its really easy to overdose copper and for what its worth I didnt really see anything here that would warrant it. Watch that fish for stress.

Thankyou for a quick reply, I just got sacred after it spilled over my fingers. Yes he personally seen the fish and started the medication, told me fish is in stress & seen many cases like this in his breeding farm & asked me to treat it with this medication first, yes I'm monitoring the dosage per instruction & discus looks same no additional symptoms apart from not taking any food

Im sorry but that makes no sense to me. Copper is used exclusively for external parasites. Your fish has no symptoms of these.

                      your first post you said
Ordered 4 pairs 3-3.5 inches from a local pet shop & able to get hold of only one yesterday, seller told only two came to him & one of them didnt make it, its coming from like 500km on logistics transit from a different city here
Petshops rely on copper alot because they are always getting in new fish with parasites. This doesnt sound like the seller is a breeder..

Hello guys hope everyone here is doing great, posting back after almost a month now. Lots have changed in my tank added another 3 discus in to the tank now total is 6 in the tank (2 juvenile 4 medium sized ones) + 12 rummy nose tetras in as well with them and everything is going great with lots of water changes & all parameters looks normal. All of them eat normal in fact eating like crazy lol

But today morning in small discus, pelvic fin got a break off not sure when it happened just noticed when I have turned on room lights unable to take pictures of them with aquarium lights on as they just go hide & also noticed a bit damage in dorsol fin of the big guy Im not sure what is this.

Added pics above is this any disease I need to worry about? or just damage with bullying/hitting the stuff in tank as I can see them pecking often during feeding time?? Any advise will be greatly appreciated

The fin damage sometimes happens when they are dragging it across substrate or a dirty tank floor. They get a local fungus and it breaks off.. might be the cause...usually grows back with time and clean water. The dorsal fin looks like bullying. Fin rot is possible but its hard to say from one pic. That you see aggression probably means its from bullying. Are any other fish fins damaged?

Thanks for a quick reply al. Yes I can see them scratch the bottom gravel often looking for food even though I feed them tons, I keep the tank clean I suck up all the waste & debris as far I could after doing a water change every 2 days, Just turned on lights to take two pics just to show the bottom area of the tank. I see damage in those 2 small ones now same break off in that front long fin, rest 3 discus in other side of the tank which are like medium adults dont see any issues with them all looks ok mate

No I wouldnt say fin rot .. but seeing the last set of pics your recent copper treatment might be the culprit.I have read that too much copper interferes with calcium and bone growth. Its a guess as possible. Are you still treating with copper?..If not the fins should repair with clean water. I didnt see this fin erosion in the pics from a month ago.

I should add that theres also a chance there was some organ damage and the fish are not processing vitamins and minerals as a result. Thats also associated with copper .

                                Reference..
Copper is a significant trace element necessary for the normal growth and metabolism of living organisms. However, if there is overexposure, it can be toxic.
