The SimplyDiscus forum is back up but there are a few things that you will need to know in order to log in.
- Old passwords do not work. You will have to use the Reset Password link on the board to reactivate your account. That link is: http://forum.simplydiscus.com//login.php?do=lostpw . The link will ask you for your e-mail address that you registered to the forum with. When you put in your address, the board will mail you a confirmation asking if you want to change your password. Click the link in this e-mail to have a temporary password mailed to you. Once you login with this temporary password, the board automatically asks you to set a new, permanent password.
- Most of you will have all of your Instant/Private Messages from the date you registered. Apparently the old board stored deleted messages in the database. When we converted, all of the deleted IMs were restored. At the top of the forum you will see a link under your name that says "Private Messages." Click on this and you will be able to sort through and delete all of your old messages. We apologize for the inconvenience with this, as many of you will have hundreds of old messages in your Inbox.
- Some profile information was lost. It would be a good idea to update your profile so that certain things are customized to you, such as the forum time. Do this by clicking on USER CP at the top of the forum, and browsing through all the different options on the left. If you click on Edit Options, you will see a section for Date and Time options where you can select your time zone. Also, there will be a Miscellaneous Options section that gives you the option to change your Message Editor Interface. If this is set to Basic, you will not be able to use features like smilies, bold text, etc. You will need to change this to Standard or Advanced in order to use these features, so please be sure that is set properly.
- This board does not allow display names. Some people signed up with a certain username, and changed their display name later. Display names do not work on this board. This means that you will appear as your username. Tad, as an example, used dtfujita as his username, but set his display name to Tad. There is a function on the board that allows a username to be changed, but it can't be reversed. If you'd like your name changed you can e-mail us, but remember that it's a permanent change once it's made.
We hope you enjoy the new forum. I will still be making small changes here and there, but for the most part it is active and ready to go. It does take some getting used to, but there are a lot of nice features and options available. Be sure to browse through all the menus and options to get a feel for how the board runs and where all of your features are.
