    Discus habitat

The E11 enhances your aquarium with flexible beauty that mimics real Amazonian scenes. Grab this in-demand backdrop now!

So I have been looking at some aquadecor backgrounds for my aquarium and this one is by far my favourite but I want to make my aquarium relatively similar to a discus habitat - is this remotely similar? I am going to pair it with fine yellow sand and lots of driftwood.

I love the background but I am not sure the discus care. Visually, it looks appealing.

No plants in their natural habitat. They live where there is lots of driftwood, That's if you want it natural which is not necessarily what you want it to look like. The background is fine.

Hi Charlie, the fish don't care. I think you found your background. I see there are two attachments types, either magnet or suction cap. I would suggest using the one which keeps the background as close to the back of the tank as possible. Personally I have used silicone.

I think that would be just fine. In the wild discus live amongst sticks, branches, roots, and tree trunks right along the banks. It's not always crystal clear lagoons like many may think. A lot of debris in the water column, dark, kinda murky not necessarily dirty just a lot of organic material to stir up. Fairly void of any real amount of plant matter at least in the dry season when water levels aren't swallowing the branches of the trees above or the grasses on the riverbanks. Videos here could be some of the best to see the real thing

This background has a kind of rocky nature in between the fake roots of the trees, is that similar at all? I know the fish don’t know or care lol, but I just want it to look similar to their environment. I’m a very picky person lol

Those backgrounds are neat, but I've never reconciled how you could possibly keep it clean behind them.

Jacob the aquadecor backgrounds are fashioned from styrofoam and typically come in several pieces which are flat on the back (unlike universal rocks backgrounds). AD backgrounds can be siliconed in place, as Pat mentioned, around the outside edges of each piece to hold in place and prevent detritus getting behind it.
If you do opt to silicone, I do not recommend siliconing the entire back surface. A friend did this and it was impossible to remove without scratching his tank and totally destroying the background.
If you use the magnets or clamps when you do a major maintenance you can remove or lean forwards and siphon behind.

It’s like a creek or river bank that has been eroded away by water movement. The presence of rock and mud looks natural to me for at least part of their yearly cycle around monsoon waters.

To be fair, I don't currently have a means of hearing the video, so maybe they're making a point.
Being solid certainly is a benefit.

Think I may have found a slightly better one - still got those tree roots which is good but instead of the gaps being filled with rock its like a mud / dirt which is much more similar https://aquadecorbackgrounds.com/shop/e-models/e8/
