I've seen multiple vendors sell this type and I can't quite pinpoint if it's wild or hybrid. Thank you!
Is Red Alenquer or Alenquer Red a wild or hybrid variety of discus?

There are wild discus from the Alenquer region. I think you are most likely seeing a domestic discus intended to look like it's wild counterpart. Best to ask the vendor about the fish in question!

Most of the Alenquer's you see are domestic bred from wilds. They can be quite exquisite but can also be very average, depending on what they've been crossed with and the honesty of the seller. They remind me of the original discus I got from Fairy Lakes in SF years ago. Here's one of my old favorites. Albino Alenquer. I don't see this quality offered anymore.

Some I had....
Hi all, About a month ago I posted some pics in another thread of a some albino alenquer fry in a spawn.. These were from a pair of alenquer albino intermediates.. I got these adults from Kenny's last Forrest shipment (thanks guys!!:)) and really didn't think I'd have much luck with the albinos..but being a wild discus nut..
As a general reference.. If they are being called " Alenquers" they are probably domestic bred from wild Alenquers. Most wild Alenquers are sold as "Wild"AquaticSuppliers.comFoods your Discus will Love!!!

First off, my apologies to my friend Al and the Simplydiscus team in general for my less than aggressive participation to this contest. Prioritizing time has never been one of my strong suits, and with my day and evening work schedules I just have not been around that much. That being said, I also want to thank Al and SimplyAquaticSuppliers.comFoods your Discus will Love!!!

They remind me of the Santarems I got from Hans. Your basic brown/reddish wild type. That pair was the best I every had. Raised every spawn and also adopted spawns from fry eaters even if they weren't currently carrying. I lost them after the lightening strike that fused all my heaters.
Still trying to figure out where I got the albinos. I'd love to find more!!
