Aquariums on Tile Floors - How to Level the Tank?

Hi guys, for those of you who have tanks on tile floors how do you level the tank? I moved my first tank to the new house and it is sitting where I want it but didn't consider the tile floor would be not quite level. My first thought is to put rubber feet in the legs of the stand? Thoughts?

I've never put a tank on tile flooring, but I've put them on a hard surface before. It really depends on the stand and what material it is made out of.

The simplest solution I've found is to use composite shims to level out the stand first, then throw the tank on top and recheck (in case of a small amount of compression). Something like these from Home Depot work well. The good thing about these is that they won't rust if you spill things and it splashes off the tile and that they will work with pretty much any stand. The downside to them is that you will, of course, see them at the bottom of your stand even after trimming them.

You also have the option of modifying your stand (if it can support it) and add in furniture levelers/levelling feet. I've included a few options below for you to get an idea of what I mean. The downsides to this type is that it does give additional height to your stand, which means your tank may be a little higher than you might like.

    Option 1
    Option 2
    Option 3

I've used shims on mine. Composite shims would eliminate any damage and rotting from accidental water spills. If it's a decorative wood stand, you could shim it then add some trim around the base to conceal any modifications.

I have used rubber feet and also felt pads that you can stack if needed, you can cut to size.

The felt will smush down. I'd go with shims. What does Frank think?

In the past I used a 3/4 piece of plywood under the tank stand and composite door shims under the plywood. Tap shims under the plywood until level, fill tank.
I primed & painted the plywood with 3 coats of exterior porch enamel. I also cut the corners at a 45° angle and smoothed all right angles. Save the toes don't you know

Depends on the sufuse and the felt you use. The one I use is very stiff.

For the metal turtle tank stand I use these in the front legs only. You can also add felt on the bottom of it to level.

In that last photo Chuck, is that a wooden coaster?

The tank I am trying to level is a metal stand and I found rubber feet which will fit the right angle of the foot. My son-in-law Mike used a metal sander to sand off the rusty area of the stand and used spray paint to finish off the stand. It looks really nice.

I want to thank everyone who has given me ideas. You guys rock.

Liz, Frank is not available ATM. Pauline, his wife was recently in the hospital so he is tending to her needs.

No that's a plastic coaster that is made to look like wood.

Chuck, I ordered the felt pad you linked and also ordered rubber feet which fit the right angle on the metal feet of the stand. Yesterday Mike and I put the feet on the stand (fits really nice) and cut a square out of one if the felt pads and level wise we are dead on being level both length and width wise. Next step is to fill partially with water and remeasure.

Also thank you to everyone who posted in this thread, I appreciate the ideas and feedback
