Black patch Blue diamond genetics.

Recently I got this little guy with a bunch of other fry and noticed this black patch. At first I thought it was a bruise, but then it won't disappear(month or so) I looked it up and this looks like the black patch BD strain. Anyone know about this genetics? The second image is what I found on the internet to compare.

Looks like pigment to me. The second pic is half moon Discus.

The original pic in the OP’s post looks like a faint stress bar which is a genetic throw back from lines used to create BD’s. Not a desirable trait in pure BD’s, but not anything to be worried (or excited) about either

Yes. both parents are gone now.

The reason I ask is because you may know a little more, but I've heard from several people that the half black discus have had intentional nerve damage inflicted on them by the breeder by submerging the tail section in near freezing water, causing nerve damage and restricted blood flow similar to a frost bite effect, and are sold as a fixed strain. I have seen Gabe Pasoda selling half blacks on his website. I've never seen any of these discus in person and thought you may have some thoughts on this...

The subject discus in this post could have suffered some sort of nerve damage that resulted in a similar affect, although the discus I've seen with this type of damage has been cause by hitting the glass and the head area is usually affected. I've never seen this in the tail section...

Jeep: I got 4 of them from Gabe at JWD, they were 2.5 inch in size. As I grew them out to breeding size 2 had black and 2 looked like normal leopards.
The 4 of them paired off, normal leopards together and half moons together. I read some where that they were a result of trying to breed a black strain of discus. Here is what I know, when the half moon spawned there were two color fry. Some were gold fry and some were black. I had to raise them artificially as the half moon parents keep eating the spawns. As the fry grew I defiantly see the halfmoon in them, also some gold and some almost solid black. For the life of me I could not keep the halfmoon and the black fry alive. I think the black genetics made them weak. As for the gold I was able to raise them to full size, I have just had 2 of them pair off this week and lay eggs, no wrigglers yet.
I separated the different color fry to raise them separate containers, this pic shows the two color fry from the half moon spawn in their own containers.

Daniel: The fry were gold in color but as they grew they become full leopards.
They are now about 7 in in size
