    Resurrected from the dead...

About 7 years ago while cleaning my HOT Magnum, I knocked it over and broke the coupler that joins the intake tube. I used aquarium silicone to glue it back together, but then I set it aside and forgot about it for a couple of years. When I wanted to use it again, I was extremely disappointed because it no longer worked. The impeller was working but it wasn't sucking water into the filter. I've fiddled with it a few times over the past few years but it's basically been sitting on the floor collecting dust ever since...

Tonight I accidentally kicked it with my bare toe, and instead of getting mad, I decided to tear into it again but it still had the same very weak output. But, when I filled it with water and plugged it in with the intake tube out of the water, it pumped water out as it should. I figured something had to be blocking the intake, so I took a long rod and pushed it through the intake tube and I felt some resistance. Then a large piece of silicone dropped out. I guess when I glued the coupler back together, I used too much silicone and it bunched up inside and clogged the tube. Now it works like a champ!!

I'm very happy about this because the HOT Magnum is the best filter ever made for water polishing. I set it up on one tank at a time and move it from tank to tank for a couple of hours at a time and the water is crystal clear. Unfortunately, Marineland discontinued them about 10+ years ago, so if you ever come across one that still works, I highly suggest buying it no matter the cost.

Very cool Brian, I use to have one of these a long time ago. I left it with a built-in 180 gallon tank two houses ago. Glad you got it working.

Jealous! Those HOT cannisters were awesome. I used to have a bunch of them. I was so dissapointed when they were discontinued . I also used the larger Magnum ones. Congrats Brian on getting it going again.

The only choice is the new magnum Polishing Filter or the aquatop, it's a bit cheaper and you can get the double or single filter version from Fish tanks direct.

I found another one tonight. I won't say how much I paid for it, but as stated above, "I highly recommend buying it no matter the cost"

Just the Magnum but they look like they would work specially the double filter version. Aquatop is a well known brand with some high end filters.

I really miss my System One filter. I wish they still made them.

I have a Diatom but no new filter bags. Back in the day I use to use them all the time. I don't know if I got rid of it yet I was keeping out of nostalgia.

The System One used a fiber filter in a jar along with DE. It worked extremely well.

Still have it but it needs a new filter sock.
