As far as I know Aquaclear is Hagen group that Fluval is part of. The numbering scheme is tank size max gallons can't own that. You blame Seachem for using tank size at least they don't have the same name.
Going to borrow this.."Disclaimer : I am an old man and all this information is from the top of my head so any mistakes noted I claim the 5th"

Chuck you don't seriously think that its just a coincidence that seachem names their filters the same as aquaclear? Aquaclear established their filter as The 110 model for decades and seachem happens to use the same descriptor for their new filter line a few years ago?
Sorry not buying it.

For the Aquaclear 110 fans.. the replacement sponges on these by Hagen/fluval are pretty pricey.. and the after market cheap imports sponges are really poor quality for the most part and way too large pored.. There is an ebay seller.. Big Kahuna.. they sell a replacement sponge made in the USA thats practically identical to The Aquaclear ones and they are almost half the price. Im really impressed by these. Give them a try next time you need sponges or prefilter material.
Side by side ..big kahuna left.. Aquaclear Right side.
