I would like to add some type of driftwood or a dried tree branch to my tank but don't want the tannis or anything leaching off of it to discolor the water, I thought I read some where somebody dipping their wood in a clear liquid, maybe a rubber coating of some kind or an acrylic dip, wondered if anyone has tried this and found something that coats the wood so there isn't any leeching coming off of it. Thanks

Re: Driftwood coatings
The prob with that if the wood is dry it won’t sink unless you have it attached to something to counteract its buoyancy. Your other option is to boil the wood to accelerate the release of the tannins, and then if it still leeches add puritan to your filter as it will remove any additional discoloration.Last edited by danotaylor; 06-28-2024, 04:37 PM. -

Re: Driftwood coatings
I soak my driftwood in a 5-gallon bucket, weighed down with something heavy. If something leaches, I'll just change the water a couple of times. It's usually ready to go in 2 - 3 weeks depending on the size of the piece. At my age, everything is irritating.Comment
