    Wifi thermostat

Unusual application here but do any of you use Wifi thermostat to monitor the overall temperature of a room?

I need to figure a way to accurately keep tabs on the temperature of the shed My red footed tortoises are in. Initially I was going to try and use inkbirds controllers by having the probs in a small sealed jar of water. But it wont be accurate like that because some of the heat lamps are incandescent other are radient. I also wonder if the my turtles will chomp through the wires ..

I was thinking of using wifi thermostats to monitor the heat at several points in the shed.

    Hey Al,

We have a greenhouse at home, I monitor temp and humidity using an Eve device for the last two years . Reviews are not great but I wonder if it is user error, I also think it works best if you use an Apple device as HUB (my current setup).

I can't comment on what has been suggested because I haven't used any of those products, but it might be worth looking at since you're buying a product that is tailor made for what you want (monitoring). I have used two smart WiFi thermostats - the nest thermostat and the ecobee. Both thermostats have options for configuring with multiple room sensors. The downside to using WiFi thermostats is you're paying for a lot of unused features and you'd need to get a transformer to take the mains power and convert it into 24v for the thermostat.

Al look into the Inkbird web site they have a lot of different sensors. I bought the one for my pool and tells me the pool temp and indoor temp. Not wifi but they have others different applications. They are not very expensive.

Depending on the distance a bluetooth unit may work. Think their range is around 100 feet and their a little cheaper. Edit to add most inkbirds [and most others] can support multiple sensors on one app so you can monitor different areas at once.
