Hi everyone! Over the years I’ve had aquariums, goldfish ponds and koi ponds. It’s been awhile,20 years since I had koi and goldfish, except for my last betta, that was about 10 years ago. I’ve been dabbling in everything from a bowl with a betta to a huge koi pond (10X40 feet,5 feet deep on the deep end) through my 59 years of life. I’m now thinking about getting a new aquarium. I’ve had angelfish in a 150 gallon tank before but never discus. I might practice with some easier fish for a year or two just to get back into the hobby but I think I’d like to eventually get into discus.

Hi Tracy and welcome to SimplyDiscus. This is a great place to do research before diving in. May I suggest doing some research before trying an easier fish for a year. Discus are not that hard once you understand and commit to their needs. Al did a talk on discus a while back and his video is a great place to start. Go to the first post in this thread https://forum.simplydiscus.com/forum...tch-this-video or here's the direct link to Al's video below.

I have been into tropical fish for 60 years. Raised all sorts, but this is my first venture in Discus. I bought 9 4-5.5 in fish last week from LFS. 4 paired up. This a.m. I saw eggs on a sponge filter. The tank is full of algae, but I changed water everyday so I guess they must be happy. I live in Southern China. not much info here or assistance. the eggs look like they are fungus up to me. so I better get them in a clean tank. anyone want to talk about fish to me feel free to email. IN China it is difficult to get onto any forum. Thanks and any advice/assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated . thom

Thom, welcome to SimplyDiscus. I am sure that members here can help you getting discus and breeding them successfully.

We have a section on the forum...

dedicated to breeding discus so reading there is a good idea. You can start a thread there about your particular tank and and pairs and discuss what you are currently doing and things to try. You will want to give those pairs their own tanks for starters as they breed best in a private tank. Water parameters are also important. Glad you found the forum.

Hello, long time lurker, first time registered poster.

I've been in and out of fish keeping my whole life. Currently have eleven tanks but finally (after much reading of this forum) took the plunge to get discus.

I have ten from Hans Discus in my 90g (+20g sump). They are gorgeous and eat like pigs!

The three In the photos are about 8 months old. and the tank stays fairly clean it’s a 125 gallon with 3 discus and 5 rainbows so the low stock helps a lot

They look like they are healthy looking discus though small for their age. Their colors are nice. Its challenging raising discus in tanks such as these. Where did you source your duscus Tad. Those are really low stocking densities for a 125 gal.
Do you plan on adding more discus?

Tad the tank looks well maintained now you need some more discus. Got love those Boesemani Rainbow fish I have about a dozen in my 125G and might have to rehome some of them in the near future as they grow and they get really big (males up to 4.5") I started with six from Tom.
