Maybe she does it because she knows I'll take sympathy and feed her some FDBWs, lol...

Well, I'm sorry to say that my spotted project has officially come to an end. Whatever the reason, water issues, gill infections, etc..., they're all gone now except the female Super Panthera and I don't have high hopes for her lasting much longer. It's been a frustrating journey to say the least...

Sorry to hear that Brian but perhaps for the best. It's awful when you want to start something like this and it all falls apart even before it gets started

The street has been leaking again all summer long so they gave up and are replacing everything for a mile. Funny that the original pipes lasted since the 1930's and this new blue pipe lasted 6 years before being replaced with the same blue pipes. Buy hey, by all means keep raising my water rates...

I know that you've been seeing this coming for a while, but of course, you must still be gutted. So many of us were looking forward to having some of these excellent genetics in our own tanks. The whole situation is a damn shame because there was nothing you could do other than use 100% RO.

What is this blue pipe? I've never seen it nor heard of it. What were they using before and why on earth aren't they using plain old PVC? That's what's used down here.

I’m sorry to hear about the unfortunate news. I was genuinely excited to have someone local breed beautiful fish, but it’s truly disappointing. This hobby isn’t for the faint of heart; it doesn’t matter how many times you lose your fish; it’s still heartbreaking. What I find even more disappointing is that you invest your blood, sweat, and tears into fixing whatever’s wrong, but it doesn’t always work.

Sorry for the tough journey! I hope you can move past this and continue to try again. I work for the utilities dept in Newport Beach Ca, the blue pipe should be PVC c-900 with a smooth interior. Very unfortunate that it has gave you big problems. The c-900 pipe should be very resilient and last more than 6 years. Wondering if perhaps with was installation error? A lot of factors can play in this pipe failing.

I don't know if this is helpful in any way, but it can't hurt. About 15 years ago, I started losing fry tanks and even a couple of breeding pairs when the main water main serving my neighborhood was replaced. I know this because the pipe ran past the front of my house. I even took losses in my angelfish spawning and breeding tanks. Turns out it wasn't the new pipe itself, but some additive to reduce leakage in new pipes.

My solution was to go 100% R/O. The fish not only recovered by thrived, even without adding back any trace minerals. In fact, breeding frequency improved. I had a friend/partner who raised my spawns, as they did better in hard water. I did 100% R/O for 5 years before going back to tap water.

                    Good luck with your breeding.
At my age, everything is irritating.

Thanks for the tip Willie! I'm glad this worked out for you. Since this water main has had issues for a few years now, I certainly wouldn't rule out additives in the water to cover their alleged clean water standards. Being without a basement, it's hard to plan my expanded kitchen remodel to fit everything I'd like to have. I've been fairly successful at maximizing my space and efficiency, but water storage is an issue without utilizing my garage. I don't want to give up on the hobby, so maybe I need to think about a way to do just that. Right now, I just have a couple of 55g barrels setting in the way of everything. I wanted to install a large capacity water storage tank in my crawlspace but that would require removing several main floor joists, then finding a way to make it easily accessible for cleaning and maintenance. Maybe I can concentrate on a well insulated setup for a large container in the garage since the garage itself isn't insulated and our cold winters can almost compete with yours. I am done buying expensive discus until I can work this out...

Absolutely gutted to hear about all the struggles you've had with keeping your fish the past couple of years, from the power outage to the continual water quality issues and now up to losing all but one fish. Here's hoping that once the new water main goes in that things get straightened out, although at this point I would imagine your trust in the water co to deliver good water to use for your fish is all but eroded.

Whoever said I was a glutton for punishment wasn't far off. I wanted to wait a good long time to see if my water has settled down. I haven't had any water related issues in about a year, so I figure it's time to get things going again. Miranda put up a video and offered me first pick so I took the bait...

I'm getting one SP and two Panthera Leopards. That's all the budget can swing right now. The photo is just a screen capture from Mirandas tank video as they will be in QT for the next week. I'll post the others when I get a chance, but they're pretty nice. They're a bit young but hopefully I can get something to pair up with my remaining SP in the near future...
