So I went to the basement today to check my microgreens system and the ray tank was like milky water. It wasn’t like that an hour ago. I thought it was maybe another breeding event but upon closer inspection I discovered this little guy

Not sure which female miscarried. Will have to watch to make sure it was partial putting her life in jeopardy.
The only positive is that my male is fertile. Still moving ahead with the sale as I just made a deal for the brown based pair…

What a tragedy. So close...I sure hope your female is OK. Congratulations on the sale.

The darn fish are always throwing a curve ball. Sorry about the little one Danny. Could there be any live little ones later?

It is possible Pat. Probably not in the time frame between now and when I deliver them though. It’s alll good either way tbh

SD friends this thread is coming to a close. I successfully delivered the 2 brown based females 2 weeks ago. They are doing very well with their new owner, and he is very happy.
There's an LFS here in Cincinnati that has an extremely large acrylic shark tank. Not even sure of the dimensions but there is a couple of 5 foot long sharks in there that have plenty of space to roam. It's literally like a very large bedroom size. Anyway I had the thought to reach out the owner and see if he may be interested in setting up a new display for the black diamond hybrid pair, and to my surprise he said he absolutely would like to do that. So he's gonna get an appropriately size tank ready over the next few weeks so we can make the deal happen. It's cool too cause he is happy to pay the very reasonable price that I proposed, and I get to go visit anytime 25 mins from home. I hope to see them have pups as well, a win win. Hallelujah!

So happy you have found great homes for your rays Danny. Now the next question, what are you going to do with their rather large tank? Discus maybe? A group of wilds would look awesome in there or perhaps you have other plans?

Thank you Pat. I’m very happy to have found great homes for the rays. I would love to get discus again, but sadly I have nitrates at 20 straight out of the faucet & I don’t wanna venture into RO, especially in a 500+ gallon tank.
I’m gonna fashion a divider for the big tank. My 3 groups of tropheus will be on one side and I’m buying a group of 14 German strain adult phenochilus mdoka white lips from a good friend of mine who is changing things up at his place. This is a screenshot of 6 of the 14 off of the vid he sent me. The 3 tropheus strains and the mdoka are all time favorites of mine

It's a shame that you had to end this adventure, What's a bigger shame is that you can't keep Discus. Surely there is some water expert that could help with your nitrates. Try talking to Pat. She has found a water expert who was able to take her terrible water and turn it into perfect Discus water. Surely there must be a way.

Thanks Liz. Me too, I’m really torn over this change of direction as well, but being the pragmatist I am, I’ve just had to make it happen. Certainly there is a way to change my water, and there’s no lack of desire for keeping discus that’s for certain, but the cost to establish such a system is the sole driving factor. We just aren’t in a position to spend a ton of money on a system to produce “discus friendly water” lol

I totally get it, Danny. I could never afford what Pat has either.

I successfully delivered the ray pair today. Definitely a happy sad moment.
Thanks to all who followed this thread and learned some new stuff vicariously through my year long experience with these guys!
                            Blessings y’all!
