    Thanks Scott, Chuck, Tom , Liz & Phil.

    Chuck I am pretty sure I recognize Wal from back home, he looks pretty familiar!! LOL

    Liz I had no idea you preferred horizontal disc fish versus vertical, how interesting. I agree, there is something very soothing watching them glide through the water with the disc edges undulating to provide the propulsion, it's mesmerizing!

    I will endeavor to update news regularly, hopefully good news of pups in the near future!

      Day 3 update. The male seemed a little less active yesterday & this morning. He was eating but not as voraciously as on Tuesday. I did a 35% water change this morning as they have been super active since about halfway through the refill. Clearly they LOVE clean water. I read and believe that, but now I SEE it!

      Al was kinda enough to reach out to a friend of his that has been breeding rays for about 8 years. He was kind enough to share his contact details and we spoke yesterday. Alexis has made himself available to be a resource on this new journey of ours! So great. Thanks you blokes

        Those are really cool! I've never seen freshwater rays in person but I did feed and swim with the big saltwater rays in the Cayman's. Really awesome!!

            They are SO cool Danny. I was wondering if their had their tail barbs. Keep in mind I know nothing about keeping rays. I would suspect they could grow the barbs back since it's mostly a defensive weapon (another guess). The only place I have seen fresh water rays was when I went to Mark Chen place when he had wild discus. The rays were in huge but shallow tanks. They are gorgeous in person.

              Thank you Pat. They actual grow new barbs periodically and shed the old one. The male actually has double babes atm so I’m anticipating him shedding the old babes soon. The shed barb is actually still venomous so I have to keep and eye out for it and get it out asap so it doesn’t get eaten accidentally by the other rays.

                  Danny,
                  keep a close eye on your ammonia and nitrites for the next week or so. At your pH of 8.4 any ammonia is going to be real stressful to the rays as it is more toxic as pH increases. If you have a spike in Ammonia one in Nitrites almost always follows.

                    Danny, a dumb question. I just moved two of my near 6 inch discus. It made me wonder – how do you move stingrays if you wanted to, say, put them in a bigger tank?

                      Thank you Al. I am testing every other day. I have all of the media from my previous 50 adult 5-10” cichlids that I fed heavily, and the previous ray owner gave me about 4 more gallons of his mature bio balls from his filter. I honestly believe I have more than ample good bacteria, but am testing anyway. I also have dosed salt prior to introducing them and with my water changes until I have hard evidence that the filter media is keeping up with the bioload. I appreciate your input my friend!!

                        Frank that’s a great question! I have a fishing net that the rays disc size fits in very well. I tied the mesh to make it shallower. I do plan to buy a fishing net with a shallow rubber mesh as it will much gentler than the nylon on their skin & slime coat.

                        Something like this Frank;

                          As promised, here are some pics of the barbs on each of the rays.

                          Male my 16 yr old son named “Douglas” but secretly I call him “Scooter”, so it’s Douglas aka Scooter He has a double Barb, which I have read means the top one will be shed sometime soon.

                          My wife named this pretty lady “Dotti”. Her barb is so long it looks like it would penetrate all the way through my hand!

                          My 18 yr old son named this lovely gal “Murphy”. Her barb seems pretty standard compared to other pics I have seen.

                          I have never really named my fish in 40 yrs but these guys behave more like dogs than fish so it seemed appropriate. They get excited when they think they’re gonna be fed and when I have sat quietly in front of the tank they come and curl their disc up the front viewing panel like they’re begging for food
