Re: New journey; freshwater stingrays
Just a routine update vid.
Scooter, Dotti and Murphy are doing well. I am astounded at the ammonia production of these belly sliders! Despite having a huge amount of mature media in the twin sumps there are times when the water literally has a faint cats pee smell. Waste production like nothing I have experienced in 40yrs in the hobby! Maintaining my weekly water changes and increases from 250 to 350gallons each time. Added raw shrimp to their diet twice weekly once I was convinced of their consistent readiness to take massivore pellets as their mainstay food.
I am planning to add some decor soon to “spice” the look of the tank up a bit. Will do some creek bed walks in the near future and gather my own wood pieces. Will place a few larger pieces of rock as well. Oh and maybe an arowana or a peacock bass or 2.
Anyhoo, here’s a quick vid to say g’day!

Danny they look great! Do they interact with you as the "bringer of food" like discus do?

Re: New journey; freshwater stingrays…
Thanks you AL. It does appear so at times. They will move towards the front of the tank and curl the front of their disc up when I come into the room
I will try to get a short vid uploaded of this behavior
Hi Pat. I see the male harassing the girls at times, and he does try to get underneath them occasionally. No harm or damage to the females thankfully. The brown based "super hybrid" looks at times that she may have a pup or pups, but d/t my inexperience, I cannot tell if the movement I see is just her muscle action, or actual pups inside her. Time will tell. From my ongoing research, I am actually a lil' suspicious they are not quite as old as the seller said, and that perhaps they're not quite ready as. For now I will continue to enjoy their unique behavior, feed them well, keep the water clean w large weekly wc's, and hope something happens in the next 6 months or so

Al as promised here’s a few short vids of the ray behavior when I came and sat in front of the tank this afternoon. Definitely recognized me as their food source and put on a little show for me
They have poor eyesight but definitely seem to recognize me as their food source! Hope you (& others enjoy) enjoy!
A little post feeding exploration

Danny they are really cool . They definitely get excited at feeding time!
Aging myself here and showing my trekky side..Cant help it but everytime I see Rays I think of the original Star Trek with Kirk and Spock and the alien "pancakes" that took people over.
Kirk lost family to them.
