Duckweed reservoir

Thanks, Al. I remember the time when duckweed was my worst enemy. One day I vowed to rid my tanks of it. It took several weeks to get it all but I finally succeeded. Now, I'm wanting to grow more of the stuff. Live and learn. -
No filter, Duckweed does well in stagnant Ponds, but I use airstones as I Think if just circulates nutrients better and smells better!Leave a comment:

Well, what with a rooster in the house I'll have no problem getting chicken poo. Does it need filtration or just a few bubbles bubbling away?Leave a comment:

Liz that stuff grows like a weed but its still a plant and as such some nutrients will allow it to thrive... doesn't need to be fish though. Chicken manure is fine... doesn't need much either.Leave a comment:

Hey, Al. Can I grow duckweed in a tank without fish or do I need to add some BN to add nutrients to the water? I'm having a hard time growing enough to keep up with the amount the Rainbows are eating,Leave a comment:

Re: Duckweed reservoir
Well, don't laugh despite what I said earlier in the thread. If the fish like it I'll start growing them myself. God knows I have plenty of empty tank space.Leave a comment:

Any chance of you sending me some next time I make pork heart. It will be a good while so you'll have lots of time to save it up

Re: Duckweed reservoir
Hi Liz,
Its going well .. I have my large Axolotl tank covered in it and have some in several smaller tanks including the crayfish tank. Contrary to everyones fears it hasnt taken over everything including my toilets.. though it did migrate to a few adjacent tanks .. removing the unwanted greenies was easy enough.
I bet it would be great in beefheart. maybe a quick steaming first.

He Al, how's this project going? I wonder how it would taste to the fish ground up in a beef heart mix?Leave a comment:

Re: Duckweed reservoir
Well I have to say.. I am pleasantly surprised. I always thought bringing a product to market would take years.. Its incredible what Acme Aquarium Products was able to do in a matter weeks.
