He got out on his own eventually. He jumped up thinking the lid was closed, but it wasn't. He didn't mean to enter the tank, but he was OK with it really.

My cat Leo fishes for Axolotls here so I think would be ok with paws in water. My bud Dante however would have jumped in.. jumped out in a panic and knocked over every fixture not nailed down.. run a marathon and then spent an hour shaking his paws dry.

Was the lid on before or after it went in?

The front part was open. I'm tearing down my fish room and selling everything because we're moving. I have only 12 fish left which are sterbai I'm shipping to Liz tomorrow. Someone came and got all of my shrimp, interesting snails, and most of the good plants this afternoon.
I donated a bunch of bristlenose to the LFS yesterday. Very weird not doing water changes or feeding fish the last couple days.

Anyway, the front part was open because I had drained to catch out all the bristlenose. I walked out of the room heard a commotion and came in to find this. He did manage to break one half of the lid and knocked some little caves into the tank.

I had a cat I walked like a dog on a leash, he also would go swimming in the lake like a retriever. When I'd throw the retriever dummy for my pitdogg, the cat would go for it too. I do not know what the hell he'd do if he got to it but it sure got the strange looks at the lake. A few folks would walk up and ask me a question "is that a cat" I'd say nope it's an overgrown muskrat...😂 When he got out of the water he sure didn't look like a grey tabby. He was a great cat! He also chased squirrels up a tree and jump from branch to branch scared the bejesus out of the squirrels. He ended up dying at about 2 years old of a blood clot.
