What my Rams have been doing...

I've gotten my first batch of Ram eggs in my new 115g tank!

I just added 2 new juvie females in order to strengthen the genes a bit. My older couple were...well...let's just say they were a bit inbred. Enough so that I decided not to raise any fry and let my discus have monthly snacks. =)

Welp, the 2 little females paired off with my 2 six month old males and this morning I woke up to this:



Tried to get clear pics, but the morning light was tough on the photo's, and on top of that my flachen just refuses to be left out of any photo ops, so he swam over and stuck his big mug in there, which just ticked off the male ram. The last pic is of the male "chasing away" the flachen. LOL

LOL that 3rd picture is hilarous. Or. . . he could be telling you NO! photos allowed or wait "No Flash photography allowed" LOL that ones too cute

He does sorta look like he's saying something, huh? If he's talking, he's saying "NO WAY, you are SO not taking pictures of those fish! They are mean enough to me now, if you get in here with that camera they'll be IMPOSSIBLE to live with tonight!!!"

Just have to get them born and then scoop them out before the discus have their way with them. Old Fred and his cohorts have become Ram fry addicts in the last 2 months. I already splained to them that these fry are "special" and not tasty, but I'm not so sure Fred believed me. He just keeps swimming over to check out the nest...and gets chased away by the big burly daddy. LOL

I have a 90g full of driftwood that's one of my Heckel tanks..About a dozen Rams are the cleanup crew. Let me restate that..They absolutely rule the lower strata, chasing off the Heckel's from piles of worms, etc..I notice today that one pair is on eggs, so it'll be hell in there shortly....

May i know what is ur water parameter? I have some rams in my tank and had laid some eggs and most of the eggs turns into brown but never get to fry stage.

My tank that has the Rams is a Heckel biotype, so the parameters are geared to the Heckels..Ph is around 5.2, sometimes in the 4.7 range...TDS is about 68, really soft in that tank....They've hatched out two batches, but a few sneaky tetra still manage to gobble them up before they free swim....

awwww, I'll tell my rams to get busy and make more babies for ya Skip. =)

Right now I'm sitting on a batch of discus eggs and hoping I can hatch them. Got past the first 24 hours and they're still all nicely pinkish colored (hmmm, more or a coral or peach color really). No fungus yet...whee!!! Just haven't figured out what the heck to do with them should I actually get wrigglers and should the parents actually not eat them.

I'm NOT prepared for motherhood yet...waaaaaah.

Oh and I gots to go buy a couple more breeding tanks pronto. The rams were making kissy faces at each other this afternoon and cleaning a rock again.
