Thanks, me too.... just don't know why they did which is hard to live with. Was trying to match the shops water then slowly change it down, they say it's 6Gh 27 temp no other info (Kh TDS No3) etc. Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I thought you were talking gallons. From your information, I can see no reason for them to die.

Thanks Liz, they did have pots and dishes as most use and 60l is 15 US gal? will up the w/c to everday 20l? At the moment I just want to see if I can keep them alive for more than aweek.

First off, a 5 gallon is too small. They need a 10. Next, they lay in the trays you put under the pots, not the pots themselves. They don't run up the cone like Discus do. They'll even lay on the tank floor if they don't have a tray. I'd shoot for a lower TDS. About 90 should work. And lastly, change water every day or no less than every 3 days. Hope that helps.

Should be on my : Our Tank Journals but a break down.
set up a 5' tank planted tank with rock wood clay pots. my water was 0/5ppm NO3 the water was RO/DI plus Nitrate filtered water. after a lot of reading found Nitrate is swapped out for Chloride so going to remin the RO/DI with remin salts. either I killed them or they were ill when I got them. the Sterbai and BN are doing fine and were eating within hours of going into the tank as the Rams did not eat and only 2/3 looked okay but lost them over afew days. going to get a pair from a different supplier into a bare bottom, sponge filtered 60l tank trying for TDS 150/200 KH2 Gh 6 temp 80f 20l w/c weekly? (1/3rd)

It's available on Amazon. It's a tea meant for drinking, but for use in the aquarium, it's used to lower the pH so the parent's eggs can hatch out. It's used by people like me whose tap water is too hard for eggs to hatch. It's a good alternative for folks who don't have an RO unit. If your water from the tap is good for hatching eggs, it's not necessary. Tell me more about your disaster and I'll try to figure out how you can avoid disaster in the future.

Liz, I know this is many years old but have been reading as much as possible on Rams as had a disaster with my first 6. Can you tell me what Roobios tea is?

It had been nothing but rain for weeks here. You should see my poor long dirt road. I was actually out in the rain last week digging little ditches to help the drain the huge puddles before my little Fiat 500 drowned in one.

I'm not forgetful like that in my real job. I have everything arranged so I know exactly where it's place is. It's all the stuff that I have to figure out as I go because I thought I had it figured out before I started that wups my arse. God help me with a construction project or small engine repair. I can give myself credit for muddling through, only.

I have a sneaky feeling that Roobios tea is no longer working as it did for years. My dear friend, Dottie Miller is sending me an RO unit that no longer uses. Old timers or others going to NADA shows should know Dottie. She's no longer active here, but she has attended every single NADA and is one of the founding members. Let's hope the RO unit turns things around for me. I wasn't put on this earth to watch fish. I was put here to breed them!

Glad to hear you are enjoying ! I am the same with too many trips for supplies and materials ..I thought only roofers overthink stuff?
I always say and believe I have enough also but when opportunity presents itself I like to able to jump on it !
I see why you have large tanks with how fast my little discus are growing .
Glad the rams and swords are not quite like that ..That is one issue I have had with angels ..The amount of space they require is very demanding .
It may actually get to be a glorious 50f this week for a high here !

I finally finished the project and moved all the fish over. I took a day off yesterday because the weather was to glorious to spend the day working in a dungeon. I actually have room for more tanks now if I ever go crazy for some other type of fish. For now I have enough to make me happy.

I should change the title of this thread to, "I try to breed Rams". At least I don't give up easily.

I found a shelf where I can fit 5 10's and a 5 and a 20. I will water test the 10 gallon I siliconed yesterday and put it in place the next day if it doesn't leak, then move fish and tanks. I'm in the process of rerouting part of my central air pump's output to a new area to do this. I got a good start on it this afternoon. The exciting thing is that once those tanks are moved I'll have room for 5 more 10's for other fish, like the pretty sward tails a good friend of mine is breeding . Don't laugh, DIY doesn't come easy to me. I spend too much time thinking and then running for a tool I forgot I would need. I will be inordinately proud of my self when I get this little project done.

Blue's spawned again. Eggs lasted 2 days. Dutch guys are fanning 2 day old eggs. Blacks spawned again in the tank with their kids. I didn't adjust the water so they fungused a couple days later. I need to set up another 10 and move the black pair so their kids can have the tank they're in to themselves. I'll re-silicone the leaking one and look for a place for it later today. I had a plan, but the 29 I wanted to use for water storage is too tall for the short person rack I built myself. Need to put my thinking cap on for that one.

Sorry to type and run. I'm bagging fish for the LPS.

Thanks, Danny. I'm like an uncycled filter absorbing as many of his beneficial bacteria I can get in. (how that for a fish tank analogy?) I am very grateful to both Tom and Simply Discus.
