    Rotkeils and Other Severums

Any one ever keep or Breed Severums?" . I am going through old pics and came across these pics . What a cool fish to keep. Going through old photos is fun but dangerous! Now I want to get them again. These were "rotkeils" but they never really got typical red shoulders..still I really enjoyed keeping and Breeding them.

What about other Severums? I know Ryan Smith worked with a ton of them here. How about anyone else?

Years ago, Al, back before they were split up into several species. I enjoyed them a lot. Same with Festivums, another one that has been split into several different species though telling them apart still eludes me.

Aaron thats Funny. Festivums are my next thread. I can't tell them apart myself, but I kept M. Acora I believe was the consensus at the time.. They came from Ryan Smith back then to me. I really like festivums.

Wm. T. Innes, who had a way with words, has a great line about Festivums in his seminal "Exotic Aquarium Fishes":

"The fins have none of the color markings common in many Cichlid species. The magnificent upward oblique bar is in itself a sufficient gift from Nature for any fish."

Discus, Severums, Festivums...can Uarus be far behind? I suspect many of us have an eye for laterally compressed Amazonian cichlids.

I had uaru back in 2005.. I searched the forum but we lost pics with a hacking back then. Im still looking on my hard drives. I do like uaru alot.. however they are a royal pain if you have plants or worse still.. sponges. My Uaru would shred them.

Not too many members currently here now that were around in the beginning but Ryan and I also had two other forums... SimplyCichlids.com and SimplyAngelfish.com
Those two never made it. It gives you an idea of how cichlid crazy we were.

This is kind of crazy but when we closed those forums I stopped renewing the domain. Some domain scalper wants $10,000 for the name now.

These were my orange shoulder wild caught; I had seven at the time and 3 gold spotted.

Gorgeous. Best looking severum I have ever seen.
Makes me want to set up a tank of them again.
