    Geophagus Sveni

I went to @jasonsplecos on Monday cause he ships fish for me occasionally. He brings in a ton of wild plecos from sth america. I had seen these 6 wild sveni that came in on 1 of his recent shipments. I was interested but had decided against getting them. When I saw them in person I was done. They’re 3.5-4.5” and the trailers on their dorsal, caudal and pelvic fins are to die for. They can home w me.
Currently QT’ing in a 40B that I scaled for them yesterday. Will watch them a few months then possibly add to the 500gal. Possibly. The red head topajos have had some of the length of their trailers nipped off, I guess either each other in territorial disputes, or the bala sharks. I really don’t want the trailers nipped off on the Sveni though so I may not make that move. They do reach 7-10” so they definitely can’t stay in the 40 though.
here’s a video after 24hours in my care

I had a group of them way back in the day Danny. They are nice fish. Here's the link to my thread so you can see how they color up.

Had these guys about a week and they are a bit skinny and ratty from being recently import but they are active and eating like pigs. They will become tankmates to my F1 Altums which currently reside in the 230. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N92vNc_7co

Very nice Pat!! Thanks for sharing. I see I posted on that thread in 2019. Did the wild sveni ever spawn for you? They’re a beautiful geo.

My very first tank in 1982 had a geo brasiliensis that grew to 14”. Curving back to my formative years it seems
