    Anyone interested in Loaches?

I have one of these in my community tank.

I keep the tank in the high 70's low 80's and he does fine. He's one of my favorites in the tank. I really like loaches.

before I converted to discus my 200g was setup as a river tank with 10-15 different species of loaches (mostly hillstream)... I'll see if I can dig up some pics tonight. Loaches are so much fun to watch. One of my clown loaches even had a toy - a Malaysian Trumpet Snail shell that he would carry around constantly!

It's not a pleco, it's a loach. And right now I don't have any discus in my community tank. It's from Vietnam.

@DLock3d...Hong Kong Plec is what the Loach is labelled in the LFS in England, damba knows it is a loach, it's just what it is known as here.

Yeah, he seems to for sure. Only think is they are said to be out of discus temps (mid 70's) I have one around 80 right now and he seems to be doing fine.

                  Re: Anyone interested in Loaches?

They do like the lower temps, over here people keep them in coldwater Goldfish tanks at room temperature and they seem to do ok without any extra heating.
I wouldn't want to risk putting them in the much higher temps you would need in a Discus tank.
Hopefully someone on here has done it already and will say something so we'll know if we can add them or not!

They're happiest in 70-75F with high flow and high oxygen content. I had a manifold river tank setup as described here (http://www.loaches.com/articles/hill...-the-fast-lane) and the sewellia used to hang out as close to my 110 aquaclear powerheads as possible.

I used to have some clown loaches because someone said they would eat snails. Well, they didn't, and grew to around 6" on discus food before I threw them out in the yard. Hey, I tried giving them away first, but no one would come pick them up. Never tried any of the other ones. They do look interesting.

My clown loaches didn't eat snails for the longest time and I had a huge snail issue. But one day, they started eating the snails and now I can't see any snails in my tank.
