Speaking of food and farming. The farmers these days can sleep well even when they know that they are poisoning use all including the farmer. Take Round -up the weed killer. That is in all of the GMO wheat, corn and other cereal grains we use today. In this case GMO means that the plant can with-stand the herbicide and then it is fed to us and the animals we eat. So, basically the government gave the farmers the go ahead to poison our food. Bread and cereal is not as healthy as it used it be and can actually cause cancer.Leave a comment:

I'll give it another try. I hate what they do to animals these days, but it keeps food cheap.
When I raised dairy goats I had lots of meat in the freezer since half of the kids born are male and not suitable for breeding. When I had chickens, I processed many roosters. These days I can no longer do that due to my old age problems. I don't eat beef often since it's so expensive but I eat a lot of chicken which I know are raised in deplorable conditions. I also eat a lot of farmed catfish, wild caught shrimp, and once in a while some pork. The only eggs I eat come from my neighbor who keeps hens. I almost forgot tuna. I buy expensive oil packed wild caught yellow fin tuna. I don't know if it's sustainable or not, but to me it is the only canned tuna with real flavor.Last edited by LizStreithorst; 11-16-2024, 12:46 PM.Leave a comment:

I'm sure it's a good read, but a bit too much of an effort.👍 1Leave a comment:

Spam doesn't deserve it's bad reputation. I used to poo poo it, but I found that it makes for a great fried rice. I also use it in recipes that call for ham when I dont have a good tasting ham on hand. A good ham costs an arm and a leg. Spam is cheap.Last edited by LizStreithorst; 11-14-2024, 02:05 PM.Leave a comment:

It never got into the commercial raising of Chickens, Dairy Cows, and beef cows, and hogs. That was disappointing.Leave a comment:

A history of food in the USA
I was interested in what people ate in the USA in the 50s and 60s and came across an article on the history of meals in the USA over the last 100+ years.
I found it to be a really interesting read...learned quite a bit from it.
David Leite looks at 100 years of American food history by decade and discovered how we've undergone a massive shift in how we eat and think about food.
