Swallowtail Kites

[Second Hand Pat]

Once a year the Swallowtail Kites gather in large roosting groups as they prepare to migrate to South America. They generally gather around the end of August and me and my shooting buddy Susan go out with our favorite boat captain to shoot the Swallowtail Kites as they come off the roost. The Kites choose to roost beside water and some of them will skim the water for a drink and that is the action we are mostly trying to capture. Besides the skimming action the kites are a really beautiful bird. First a roosting shot and then some flight shots.
