Battleship Cove, Fall River Mass Re-visited.

I spent the day with Family visiting a really great Park, Battleship Cove. In Mass. Its got a couple of battleships and subs that you can explore and they do a nice job with educating. The last time I was here was 14 years ago, when I took my son there for a cub scout sleep over.

These Images are native Black and White from my Pentax K-3 monochrome camera. Still learning the ins and outs of this camera but I really like the results.

Well, Thats it folks, Hope some of you enjoyed looking at these. They don't do the park justice but give you a glimpse. The ships are massive and though showing their age, they really are incredible when you think of how they are built and what they have done.

Why cool Al, are the battleships and subs retired? What was that vehicle in (third pic in first series I think). Mini-sub? but do not think so.

Yes these are retired Pat. The Joseph P Kennedy was one of the ships in original Cuban Blockade/Crisis. Theres is smallish Sub, The USS Lionfish but its still pretty good size. There was a few helicopters that they are rebuilding , maybe thats what you are thinking for the minisub?

It was an interesting night Jacob. Our pack was one of many sleeping there..most of the kids settled down but. The dad's I don't think slept at all I know I did not. I honestly would go stir crazy if I had to sleep like that for months on end . I'm a really light sleeper too which would be a really bad thing in those quarters.

Really nice! I've been to several maritime museums or parks, but I haven't seen such a large concentration of ships. The Alabama memorial park is really cool but I think there's only 2 boats, that Alabama battleship and I think the USS Drum submarine. The rest of the park is mostly tanks and aircraft, including a 5-52 and an A-12 (looks like an SR-71). I can remember touring a WW2 submarine in I think Houston when I was a kid.

For years, people have toyed with the idea of relocating the USS Missouri to Kansas City, but the logistics make it nearly impossible. The would nearly have to disassemble it to make it happen. I seem to remember 25 years ago a figure of 2 billion dollars being tossed around. We already have about 4 billion being spent on new stadiums for the Chiefs and Royals, so no problem, just raise my property taxes a little more...
