Tom, the colonoscopy went well, but the results, as we expected, were not. I got better news than expected from the surgeon whom I saw yesterday. There was no cancer in the mass that they found, but he expects he'll find some outside the mass. If so, he can take out a big hunk of intestine and if needed, the cluster of lymph nodes around it. If so, I can come back home cancer free in 3 days and continue with life as normal. That's the best case scenario and what we are all hoping for. No guarantees, of course. Y'all keep your fingers crossed for me.
What are you up to today???

Danny, did you set the eggs several days apart?
Cute puppy, too!
Glad you're back from the mountains, Tom.
I would guess at least some of the lack of wildlife is in relation to wildlife being less conditioned to human activity and thus disappearing before you're within seeing distance of them.
It's been a rainy couple days here and raining more today. I'm glad that it mostly held off getting too wet until the grass and everything is growing well so that the muddy mess is less. We're currently in the thick of tick season and while I knew it was something we'd have to deal with... it's still frustrating. I really don't want to have to put the kids in chemically treated clothes, but I don't know what else to do. The dogs are doing well with the most expensive pills I've ever given them (Bravecto). The ticks have to bite them to die, but they're dead seemingly the second that they bite one of the dogs. All of the ones attached have been dead without any blood swelling them up. With Frontline I'd routinely find ticks on them that had been attached for a day or more. They might eventually die, but it sure wasn't quickly.
I'm going to make some "tick tubes" later this week. That might help a little bit. But we've got a lot of ground to cover. Maybe I can knock the population down just a little bit even if it's just around the house.

Maybe you could try those electronic Flea and tick collars. Have no Idea if it works or not.

Thanks Jacob. Yes, the eggs that are chirping now were 4 days behind the others
Liz you have been, and will continue, in my prayers for health and healing!👍 1Comment

I've always heard to avoid these things for dogs because they can hear at much higher frequencies than we can. The "tick tubes" use treated cotton balls. The mice take the treated cotton to their nests. And you basically treat the mice (and their babies) with a dose of Permethrin that either keeps the ticks off them or kills the ticks entirely. I've seen estimates that they can reduce the population by 90%. I'm sure that's a pipe dream, but even if it reduces it by a third that's quite a few less ticks to deal with.
There's also a lot of rabbits, deer, and raccoons around. So, there's plenty of hosts outside of mice. But I've read that most ticks have their first blood meal on mice.Comment

Thank you, Danny and Jacob. I'm feeling a lot better about the situation now than I was before I spoke with the surgeon. I just want to get this all behind me and concentrate on getting help for my back. Thanks to y'all, there is enough money in my Go Fund Me account for what Miranda calls my cadaver procedure. I'm determined not to disappoint you all by donating to a lost cause.Mama Bear😀 1Comment

I have been taking a bit of a break and slowed down in the packing end. I am currently working on the fish room and thinking the best way to transport tanks and fish. My plan is to have some aged warm water at the new house. Net and place one or two fish in a bucket for transport. Empty tank. Load tank and fish, take to new house. Fill tank, add prime and then add fish. Hopefully the fish like the new water.

A very busy time for me yesterday. After nearly 7 years as a part of our family, my niece was officially adopted so I spent the day with them; first in court for the official proceedings and then for lunch after. Wrapped up the day with a roller skating party in the evening. I am definitely not as young as a once was, and am now feeling the repercussions of the skating adventure.

I'm sorry it wasn't clear enough - she was adopted into our family! My brother and SIL have officially (legally) become her forever parents.
Today, I'll be relaxing after work since I did a bunch of yardwork yesterday.JakeComment

My neighbors love me again. This past weekend, the city had a free dumpster day near by so I was able to dispose of my old roof that was an eye sore. I was a little exhausted after moving 4000lbs of shingles by hand twice. Little do they know, I now have room to toss my kitchen cabinets outside until the next dumpster day in May.
Jake, congratulations on your new official family member. I bet she's thrilled!!😂 2Comment

I'm glad we moved out of town. Now if the neighbors have any complaints about the way my yard looks, they are tresspassing. My neighbors love me again. Hopefully the "best case" scenario works out for you and that the recovery is smooth.
