Jacob, my daughter had geese growing up and we always had to put them away at night into a pen to protect them from the night life. These two girls were very human friendly until they decided to create nests and lay eggs (both geese were female (spring only)). Then they would get very defensive of their nests. To put them away at night I would have to capture them in a horse blanket and once they were away from their nest they returned to their friendly selves. We had horses at the time and it was amazing how often horse people were scared of the geese.

Good job Danny! It's good when someone tackles a costly issue like this. That's how I learned!

Thank you Brian! I am certain a contractor would have been in 5-10K range given the nature of the issue. I did it for around $300 in materials and paid my friend from church $400 for his help for 2 full days. My time of course was “gifted” to the project
        A great saving overall!

Not just costly. A job like that could turn into a disaster if you weren't sure of what you were doing. Was your wife on pins and needles the entire time, Danny or didn't she know what might have happened if a jack slipped or something else unexpected went wrong?

It's always nice to do your own projects and proud when you get the results you were going for. Today it's also cleanup and power wash the pool area to get it ready to open. I got all my chemicals and it's always a surprise when removing the cover and see the work ahead of me. Some years it's easy cleanup and others it's a mess and the water takes weeks to clear up. Hopefully the new robot cordless vacuum I picked up Black Friday will do a good job.
            Update:
Well got carried away and opened the pool while I was at it, not to bad it should clear up in a few days.

Liz with the contractors refusing to take it on, I think she was actually more relieved I was willing to try, than just go on hoping there wasn’t an epic fail while we were sleeping as we waited on the fix.

So our final move date is May 26 which is when Tom, myself and our creatures (dog, cats, bird and maybe fish) have to move into the new house. Basically what is left is the mostly heavy stuff. Mike and Diana moved other another load the other day and the old house is looking pretty empty.

Pat, the fish *maybe* have to move? Are you getting rid of them or will they maybe be moved before that?
Fish is one thing I'm glad I didn't end up moving to our new place. That's a ton of work!

Thank you Chuck!! I do have a great sense of accomplishment for completing the task, and it looks pretty great too! I should have bought the light walnut stain instead of the dark, but in the grand scheme of things we're not too worried about it. The house needs re-staining anyway, so maybe we just stain the whole house to match LOL

Jacob, I am having a water treatment system installed with a special filter to make the water safe for the fish. When the water treatment guy came to the new house to talk about the system the first thing he did was test the water at the house. Turned out the chlorine and ph were sky high. I want the system installed prior to moving the fish. I do not have that many discus and have tanks which are not currently in use. So moving the fish is easy once I have a empty tank at the new house and a way to age the water. Once the tank is ready I will transport the fish in buckets and it's a 40 minute ride between the two houses.

Friday started my vacation till after memorial day. Staying home and a lot more projects around the house and the pool. Also cleaning the work shop is a chore itself after a few projects it's a mess and I was to lazy putting thing away. The bathroom is all finished so that's in the bag but my guest room could use a new floor also. Lets see if there a sale at Homedepot.

Washed the sheets and put them back on the bed. Let me tell you...putting sheets on my new king sized bed that my neighbors gave me is quite a chore. After a bit of rest, I got on my rolling stool and swepted. More rest, then I mopped. I still need to dust and polish the antique furniture, but I'm pretty much worn out. Instead I think I'll make lunch. Boudin stuffed sweet peppers. Only folks who live close to the Gulf of Mexico in the States know about Boudin. Add a veggie and it is a total meal.

Busy day Liz I could use help at the new house once you are caught up at your place

Move date to the new house is a week from today. Am I ready...yup lol. I mostly have the kitchen unpacked but need to stock the frig and pantry. I am washing everything I can at the old house (yup, got backed up with the packing and moving). The fish will not move right away. The water treatment system will not be installed until the 30th and will move the fish once it is installed and I have my water aging system in place.

Had a fairly busy weekend which was my first full weekend off in weeks. On Friday I stepped off of our front porch/landing and hit the ground funny. Popped my ankle a couple times and crumpled to the ground. Thankfully it wasn't more than a mild strain and I am getting around OK, but just a little limp-y.

Saturday - I got the rest of the garden planted. We set some record highs last week and now it's cooled down to highs 40 degrees cooler and looks like it is staying that cool for awhile. And it's been dry. Some of the potatoes are popping up. Because it seems like it's staying cool for awhile I put in some lettuce and chard. Also planted some big onion seeds... way late on those, but why not? Dill and cucumbers also went in. And then SEVEN different kinds of squash. From pumpkins to luffas. I planted them such that we'll train them up onto a hog panel trellis hooped up in an upside down U which is yet to be installed.

Sunday - I didn't get a ton done, but I mainly sprayed about 20 gallons of round-up/glysophate. I really don't like using the stuff, but there is some sort of invasive weed that I believe is wild parsnip... but the leaves don't quite match up. And the plants are HUGE... 6-8' tall, maybe a couple a bit taller. I should have gone after them sooner, but just kept pushing it off. I am hoping to break the cycle because right now the flowers are about ready to open. So, I'm hoping if I get them killed before they make seed, it will prevent the spread/repopulation a little bit. There's SO much of it. I bet I still need two more 4-gallon backpack sprayers full to get more sprayed, too, because I know there's a patch back in the timber. We'll see how much of a losing battle this becomes over a couple of years. But I am hoping I can stem the tide at least a little bit. I've never had the misfortune of getting into wild parsnip or giant hogweed. But one of my friends did several years ago and he had a heck of a time getting over it. Extremely painful and I believe he got a secondary infection.

Most of all, I wish I could figure out exactly what plant it is. The leaves look like Queen Annes Lace, the stems are mottled purple like hemlock... the flowers are yellow. None of that makes sense as I'm not sure a plant like that exists.

Editing to add... I just found a different source that mentions that poison hemlock can have yellowish flowers and that it can grow up to 10 feet tall. What's strange is that I've seen hemlock before... or at least I thought I had. And it was the size of Queen Annes Lace which is usually, at most, shoulder high. This stuff is absolutely massive.

Busy day today- started out moving a lot of stuff mostly word working machinery from my now fish room to make space for racking for 75gal grow out tanks. Split 3 beehives into 13 and went and got a big free bee swarm from a lady who was panicking that they were hanging from tree at her door. Whent to look at a 100 gal tank that was advertised for $30, well wouldn't you know it was a 60 gal not a 100gal. Still bought for $30 as it was new and came with a lid.
                                Now chilling enjoying SymlyDiscus.
