Re: What are you up to today?

Woke up with a pinched nerve in my neck or right shoulder (maybe both) so my right hand is about useless as it is numb.

Drained the 20 gallon tall in my tank down to the substrate so I could cap the substrate with pea gravel as the Fluval plant and shrimp substrate is too light for a reverse flow undergravel filtration setup.
Filled the tank back up, then put shut off valves in the venturis of the two power heads powering the reverse flow filtration (each power head sits on a hydro-sponge and blows down the filter stand pipe.

Tank is a bit muddy right now due to silt coming from the substrate that was capped, but I put Seachem Clarity, Pristine, and Flourish Excel in the tank so it will clear quickly, and the plant fert will get pulled under the filter plate where it will get to the plant roots. It has a flame Amazon Sword and Monte Carlo in the tank for plants.

Once the water quality is there and tank is cycled I will go with a dwarf cichlid (probably South American, but maybe Kribensis), some small dither fish, and maybe some wood and more plants.

I am going to do a water change on my 75 gallon tank either today or tomorrow, and am going to pick up my new bicycle that has been a year in the making while we waited for parts..... You think aquariums and fish keeping can be expensive get into bicycling..... I am trying a new saddle that came out last year which is moldable (by heat) to my butt.... plug the saddle in while it is on the bike, ride for 10 minutes, unplug saddle and ride 10 minutes while changing hand position on the handlebars every 30 seconds... this is all done with your bike in a trainer (stand that allows the bike to be ridden stationary).

When I do the water change on the 75 gallon I will throw the syphon house out the dining room window so I can use the tank water to water my plants (two 4 x 2 x 2 watering troughs, one big 17 gallon bucket, and some other buckets). Plants are three fig trees (juvenile... put in ground last year), one hibiscus, Nasturtiums (I hope they come back from last year), and some flowers to attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

I also will buy a bottle of white wine to use as part of a brine mix for some chicken thighs as tomorrow I will be smoking and grilling some beef roasts (chuck and round), chicken thighs, and maybe more. Tonight will be baked salmon spiced with salt, pepper, garlic, dill weed, lemon juice, and a little olive oil in the bottom of the 9x13 pan to keep fish from sticking.

Sounds like alot of work today Dave.. what time is dinner tomorrow?..

Ill admit I was lazy today. Packed my blackworm orders and hit the post office then just putzed around the yard pretending to actually do yard work

Now I am waiting on my woodfire to burn down so I can grill a pair of londonbroils for dinner.. my kid brother has steak radar and is over fir dinner...he knew I was grilling before I did.

Oh I did accomplish one thing today..i restacked my pile of pit firewood ..it fell over a bit and got soaked over the winter.

REALLY NICE WEATHER TODAY.. 72 F .. SUNNY.. lov'n it!

                              Thanks Guys..

So today what I am up to is order packing and re organizing to allow for a little indulgence of "Tank Creep". For those unfamilar with this condition its when you add tanks to areas that you really hadnt initially planned on having them. Some hobbyists go through alternating periods of "Tank creep" followed by "Tank shutdown" syndrome..

I am currently in the Tank Creep stage of the disease after a protracted period of Tank shutdown syndrome. This is something I have suffered with my whole life.. there is no cure.

Supermarket day and dollar store day and dumpster diving day. I need to find largish boxes for my big Ram order. I also want to give the guy who helps me get my boxes in my tiny car. I've been hibernating home since the middle of last week. It'll be nice just to get out and about.
