Glad it's warming up for you, Al.

I was just thinking about the bird houses this morning. I got the wood duck boxes cleaned out last weekend as it's easiest to get to them when there is ice. I forgot to bring fresh shavings with, but I need to do that before the ice comes out. Probably should do that tonight. The ice comes out quickly in these small ponds. Ignore the fact that I could have done it for the last ~3 weeks.

Mild here overnight. The rabbit and chicken water didn't even get a skim of ice over it last night! 47 again today here.

Weather is looking good for the next week or so; going to be in the high 50s or very low 60s today so I'm hoping all this warm weather will finally get rid of all the snow that's been lingering around the last 2 weeks. Other than that, I'm busy in my work day and will likely be busy when I get home reinforcing some floating shelves.

The kids are coming over for dinner tonight, doing BBQ. Hoping to get a few chores done today like water changes The weather will be nice today and may get nasty overnight as a front goes thru with high wind and rain. We so need the rain. The yard looks like a desert.

Went out birding today. Most of the Connecticut river is frozen still but we went to a park about an hour from here on the river. The river has alot of current here and the water stays mostly ice free. Good place for winter ducks with a spotting scope. Saw some rare ducks for the area...not something you can really photo as they are too far away. Did have a nice bald eagle adult fly over head and got some really good shots of a Peregrin Falcon in a tree. Usually when I see these they are zipping by overhead.

Tonight we are having a quiet night with cheese and crackers for Valentines Day. Made Lobster last night for an early Valentines Day Dinner.

So there's lots of birds around the new house. We are basically surrounded by some really tall and older pine trees mixed with a type of oak I think. Lots of acorns are on the ground and the squirrels are going nuts (liberally lol). You could have a squirrel dinner every night and still not have much effect on the population. I am going to setup some free standing bird feeders (which are hopefully squirrel prove) around the front yard and perhaps sit there with camera and work on in-flight shots. Anyway, it's a plan

Hope everyone had a nice V. day. We had the kids over last night and had a really nice BBQ dinner from a place called the Island Smoke and Pancake House (yep, they do breakfast). It was delicious.

What am I up to today? Working on my kitchen that I haven't touched in 3 months? No... It's supposed to warm up to the mid 60's today so I'll be working on the car. It's only a 4cyl and it's had a bad fuel injector for about a year and now another one is failing, which means it's basically running on 2 1/2 cylinders, lol...

Pat the squirrel proof feeders I have here have a metal cage on the that slides down with the weight of the squirrel closing off the feeder opennings. Like this..

I have tried alot of feeders and this style is really the best I have found. The one I have now is at least 15 years old.

Yeah, but only a slight temporary improvement. I installed new spark plugs and switched the coils around to see if it was something other than the injector but it's still not firing on #1. I think the #1 injector has totally failed, and since I have to remove the entire housing, I'll take care of all of them at the same time. I've watched some videos of the job, and although it's a little tedious, no special tools are required so hopefully I can finish in one afternoon.

Speaking of squirrels, I've noticed a dramatic decrease in the population around my house, not that I miss them. The walnuts are usually mostly gone by December but I'm still stumbling over tons of them in my back yard. I nearly broke an ankle today. The cayote and bobcat populations are growing like crazy even though I haven't seen any, but I'd think squirrels would be safe from those. The only other thing I can think of is the pecan tree across the street is gone.
