    Lost and found....

Kind of funny story.I keep and breed Ratsnakes and largest one is about 6 feet. Its the patriarch of my snake clan..

A few weeks ago I was multi-tasking. Changed his water and left the lid off. He has been on the loose since.

I've had snakes get out before and usually my cats find them for me or I find them in a fish tank soaking. I had one snake over winter outside in my woodpile.

I thought maybe this guy got outside...it would be bad if he did as an albino Texas Rat snake won't do well here in CT.

Fast forward to today. I'm cleaning a tank in my laundry room. Its unfinished room on the other side of the house where the snakes are kept. I cleaned the tank and went to grab a inkbird for it and came back in the room and I heard a light" pfff" I thought I had an air leak. Looked at the tank I was cleaning and coiled up about 12 " from where my face had been was my snake..I didnt notice for the 15 mins I was right in front of it! If it hadnt made that sound I never would have .

Too funny Al! I dig your nonchalant attitude to "losing" a snake in the house. I don't think my wife would have allowed me to be that casual about a snake on the loose. It's a very pretty snake though, and it's wild how well it blended in with the fiberglass insulation.

It does blend in well and what a gorgeous snake he is. Glad you found him Al and guessing you were a bit worried.

My wife has known me for 38 years... I have always been like this. I came as a package deal with tanks and cages of critters. When you have critters..they occasional escape. Generally she doesn't mind any of them though I could never convince her that tarantulas were a fine critter to keep. I did manage to bring home a scorpion once from a birding trip.. That is a funny story I should tell some day.

I'm rather fond of my snakes Pat. They live a long time and though I don't remember how old this one is, I want to say close to 15 years.

I didn't blame you Al and you know I like snakes. I use to have a wild rat snake visit out near the well house (front yard) and I have not seem him in a long time. Too many new homes built near me I think. The only snakes I have seem recently are the black racers.

That's too funny. It reminds me of when I was a kid, I snuck 3' king snake into my bedroom and didn't tell anyone. It got loose and I thought it was just gone. About 2 weeks later, my aunt opened a closet door and the snake lashed out at her. I didn't know she was deathly afraid of snakes. She cussed me out and spent 3 days in a hotel

Thats hilarious Brian. I had a similar childhood . i caught a garter snake once and brought it in my room when my mom had told no snakes were allowed. I didnt know it was a pregnant female and they are live bearers. The mom didnt get out of the tank but the babies did... 22 Of them all over the house. I was definitely in trouble after that one. lol
