Let go a bud.( RIP Dante)..welcomed another

Had a trip to the vet turn into a cancer diagnosis for my best bud,Dante, afew months ago. He developed a large tumor in his chest. It was not something we had any idea he had...he was fine intil he started coughing and wheezing. Poor boy was only 8 years old. We were devastated. We took him home with steroids to ease the breathing and it helped for about a month he seemed normal.. We knew it was temporary but until he was acting ill We wanted to spoil him and we did. About a month ago the steroids stopped working and it was time to say goodbye.Dante was a really sweet Cat..my best bud through some very challenging years.

I decided after a few weeks that I wanted to give a home to another black cat in need. They are so hard for shelters to adopt out. I went to the shelter we have gotten other cats from and met a cat that looks very much like Dante but no white chest marks. Hes a 2 year old male short haired cat that was a stray up until 3 months ago. I think he was abandoned by his behavior but he literally climbed up onto my shoulders and would not let me put him down. Cinder came home with me that day. And though he resembles Dante, they are definity very different .

Cinder is a lovebug but a wild one. 24 hours home and made a jail break..bent the screen frame out and pushed past a support wire I have run across all windows here to keep the cats in. Of course he did not know his name and had no real connection to us.. would not come when called. He spent two days last week out in my yard with coyotes and bobcats. Thought we would never get him back. Ileft his litter box outside and set up a box trap I made for catching problem critters and nothing the first night... The second night I got lucky and caught the little PITA
We have been working on name recognition and on cat security issues this past week. 2 days ago he met our other cats and they are working out their respective differences and starting to get along.

We miss Dante greatly, But Cinder now has a forever home so I like to think there was a reason Dante left us so soon.

Sorry to hear about Dante, it's always hard when our furry friends have to move on but a blessing that you could give another your home and affection. I am sure Cinder will eventually feel at home and I know that some strays take a while but eventual they get the drill.

    RIP Dante.

Sorry to hear about Dante Al (hugs), I know he had a very special place in your heart. Sounds like Cinder really needs you and he will figure out his place in your home and with your other cats.

Al, you remember when I asked you about moving my two little wild kitties to the new house. Your advice was spot on and Musha and Nala settled right in after I released them from their crates. Today they are the queens of the pole barn and they seem to always to be within calling distance.

Sorry to hear that about Dante, Al. It's never enjoyable having to make such a difficult decision for someone who has been with you for so long, but you did right by him.

I'm sorry to hear about Dante. I know how much he meant to you! Cinder reminds me of my boy Remo. I met him on a job site years ago. He was stalking me for an hour then started running up from behind and slapped me on the butt, then stopped in front of me acting all feisty and acting like he had won a battle, lol... This went on for a couple of hours when a neighbor said the previous home owner had abandoned him a few days earlier. I tossed him on the back of my Jeep and took him home. This was just a few weeks after I had lost 3 cats within two weeks that had been with me for up to 20 years and I had sworn off getting another one for awhile. Remo was with me for 16 years and the butt slapping never stopped!
