Guess what? I will never take vacation with fry in my tanks. OK this did not work very well, maybe overfed or some infection got to them without water changes. I came back to 6 dead and just removed another 12. The rest don't look very good but I did 2 water changes and added salt an raised the temperature to 86. They are having a hard time breathing and they are a bit erratic. The water was ok ammonia 0 and nitrite 0 and nitrate below 20. A few seem not affected those are little larger. Time will tell.

Chuck Im sorry to hear that! When you say you came home to 6 dead .. were they still in the tank? Did the sitter notice anything odd in the tank or remove dead fish?

She removed them and she did not say much. She was to suck some of the waste every other day but I found a lot of food uneaten at the bottom. I have a few more dead as of this morning and the rest don't look good swimming erratic and some a little sideways. I don't think they are going to make it. I think I am done trying to breed just not enough time to dedicate and with another trip in September it will be tough.

Thats a bummer Chuck. Hate to see you back out after the effort. Fry are tough to raise. Its a time consuming commitment.

You know best what to do here with breeding but I will just throw out there that if you bred this month you can raise to sellable size by Sept no problem

                  Danny,

                  Have a look here..
Well.. as some of you know I took a break from fish and the forum to care for aging and sick parents. Then the pandemic hit and I had one more reason not to breed fish. I had split all my pairs in male or female tanks and focused on family. Recently I was able to start enjoying my fish, the forum, and my hobby again. I set up

I am hoping they will. I have one that is constantly black and I am debating on culling but he is eating fine. They are on discus chow and some lose Australian black worms and so far so good.

Chuck they have nice shapes to them., Ones clearly Pigeon the other looks like a typical snakeskin.

Not sure if its the pic or fish but is the Gill plate short on the snakeskin?
