The new 20 g not in use yet I had it all cycled and ready but after a few days in the new tank 9 died. So I transferred back to the cube and the seem to be ok. I will wait a bit till I do that again but when I do, I will use the seeded sponge filters I have in the adult tank where they were spawned. I really don't want to lose anymore and I will only move the larger ones. The adult tank has plenty of seeded filtration plus the sump.Just Call Me Chuck

That’s peculiar mate. Legit downer. Do you think it was ammonia of some type of contaminant from the new acrylic?Comment

I ran that tank for weeks and many water changes It was fully cycled and tested with two different test kits. I really don't know the cause but before I use I will certainly disinfect with hydrogen peroxide 3% diluted with water 1:1. Also only add some juvenile corydoras first (I have plenty of them) and give it a week or so and observe.Just Call Me Chuck

That’s weird mate. Bummer. Sounds like a great plan

Acrylic is suppose to be inert. Perhaps ask the company who made the tank and even check reviews. I want to get a acrylic 90 in the near future so would you recommend this company or avoid?

This is not my first acrylic tank. I bought new my 125 from Clear For life, and my 90 was used but never had a problem. I have it now the 20-Gallon with 5 corydoras and so far, they are ok. The only difference is the sponge filter is one from my 55-gallon L046 tank already seeded instead of the two Hygger sponges that I used while cycling the tank. I love my acrylics, but you have to follow the marketplace on FB (used tank) or keep track of the sales going on in PetSmart they usually have the best deals. I would still highly recommend Clear for Life they are well built and reasonable on sale prices but if you find one used you can save a lot of money. I paid used $300 for my 90-Gallon and right now PetSmart wants $1349.99 and their sales run between 20 to 40 % off.

I've found the L046's, which are now all tank bred, to be far, far more difficult than other L-number plecos. Most of those spawn readily, without any particular attention. In the last iteration, I started with 10 L046's and have 3 adults. So they're not easy for me.At my age, everything is irritating.Comment

You are correct Willie; they are not as easy as others and they grow very slow. I do daily water changes and feed twice a day. They eat at night the most and they are very skittish. They get EBO brand Youngster grow paste, Insect paste and decapsulated unhatched brine shrimp. These foods are good for bottom feeders since hatched brine shrimp is harder for them to eat swimming around. Still with all the care I had some L046's that did not make it. My breeding colony is 10 and I have no idea male to female ratio, but I think at least 4 are females.Last edited by Charlyc11; 06-10-2026, 10:17 AM.Just Call Me Chuck
