    Cleaning up the fish room

I remember when this was a one day job. Now the sweeping will be a one day job. By back is happiest when I'm lying down and next happiest when I'm sitting down. It doesn't want me to stand and it doesn't want me to walk. Sweeping requires both. I've been working on the sweeping part since 8:30. It's now 11:15. I'm about 3/4 done.

The next job is to get on my hands and knees and scub the chicken poop that gets hard before I can pick it up. I'm not looking forward to that job, but it might not be as hard as I think because once I'm on my hands and knees I kind of like to stay on my hands and knees, Then I will need to mop with my floor cleaning machine and then I will be done.

That's not to say that I don't have putting things away where they belong done, but I can handle a good amount of chaos.

A break for pain meds and now I have swept. Tomorrow it will be hands and knees work. I hope I feel up to it.

Don't over work yourself. There is always tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be hand and knees with a scrub brush. I really need to do what I'm able to, even if it hurts. If I had my choice I would spend all day in bed,

Sorry Liz, this getting old stuff is no fun. My father-in-law Jim use to say, "It's not the golden years, It's the rusty years" and I think he was spot on.

Would it help to scrape or scrub from a seated or standing position instead of on your hands and knees? I have a long semi flexible scraper and long stiff scrub brush (both with handles about like a normal broom) that I have used to remove nails or staples from subfloor or scrape dirty floor. I just used the scraper to clean the floor of a shed that our chickens were in temporarily.

This isn't thenexact scraper I have, but you get the idea. They make more narrow versions as well.

Hope you feel alright, Liz, it's too bad that your back gets you down.

Not to throw more gear and gadgets at you Liz, but have you considered something like a combo vac/mop? If you have hard floors, my wife's friends swear by this: https://www.amazon.com/BISSELL-Cross...0C9V48DDZ?th=1

Not sure how well it would work for you or if it would work at all - just trying to think of ways to help save your back. I can understand what you're going through, as my dad is in pretty much the same boat.

A brush like that would be great, but I don't have one and the job is at hand. I don't think it will be today but tomorrow for sure. I can't believe how stiff I am this morning from sweeping a 20 X 20 room. I have other things to do in the sitting position. There is laundry to be folded, dishes to be washed and cooking to be done.

I was so pooped out yesterday that I went to bed hours early, mostly to rest, but I zonked out. Would you believe that while I was asleep my number 1 pair spawned? The eggs will fungus since I wasn't there to put them in a pitcher of RO. OH well...It wasn't a huge spawn and they'll spawn again.

I have one. No floor of mine would ever get mopped if I didn't. I've tried it on this concrete floor before and it doesn't scrub enough to make the stains disappear. It requires hand work. Gosh, since I've been talking about it for 2 posts I'm getting in the mood to tackle it now, but I know that I'll be better off if I take a day of rest.

I had good luck with ram eggs putting them in RO even if I didn't see them spawn and it was likely at least a couple hours or more. But maybe you've tried that with discus and not been successful.

You might get away with it in a couple of hours but not overnight. They'll spawn again. I'm not worried. They're not spring chickens, but they're a dependable pair.
