The last few months have been a whirlwind for us. Our goal has always been to get out of the city and onto some land. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I have completely left the fishkeeping hobby and there's very little chance that re-entering that hobby happens unless we move again or when the kids grow up and move out. We've been passively looking for an acreage for years, but got more serious recently. This place popped up and while the house is not really at all what we're looking for... the land checked most of the boxes and the yard is 180 times bigger. We've been out here about two weeks. The kids and the dogs are loving it. My wife and I are also enjoying it, but there's a lot more things that adults have to deal with, as we all know. There's a wild number of critters around. Lots of rabbits, a surprising lack of squirrels, lots of birds, etc. Seems like we're finding something new daily. Snakes, rabbits, turtles, toads, different frogs, muskrats, deer, etc.
There are a couple small ponds near the house and two other ponds (all of them under a half acre, I think). There's also a pretty good sized creek that winds through most of the property which is irregularly shaped, fairly narrow (about 800 feet wide at the widest) and smack on a half mile long.
The pond has fish there from a guy who does some commercial type fishing, apparently some big catfish. We haven't tried catching any big ones. I agreed that I would let him get them out (if he wants to). We'll see if he wants to try wrangling them or if he just ends up leaving them. My long-term goal would be a manage these smaller ponds for large bluegills which is basically just bluegills and largemouth bass putting heavy pressure on the bluegills such that a handful get old and big, but the majority of the spawn ends up being food for the bass. That's way down the line. So maybe the fishkeeping hobby just changes a bit...
Thanks for looking!
The goldfinches are fun to watch in the ponds. I wouldn't expect them to kind of stand in the water like they do...

I don't think you will be lacking for interesting critters to watch where you are though.
