salt water rocks for sale (live rocks?)

i have finally convinced my cousin to switch over to freshwater, maybe even getting some discus . he has all these rocks for sale and was wondering if anyone was interested in buying them? i do not know how much they go for and i can not ship them. i'm looking for local pick up close to downtown los angeles. please, if you know how much these rocks go for let me know and he'll give them to you cheaper. if you take them all he will give you an even better deal. i know he's spent a lot of money on his SW but i never really asked how much everything actually costs. here's a pic

Ricardo, I don't deal at all with SW but I know live rock is generally no cheaper than $3 per lb from what I have seen. The price can also depend on where the rock was collected, etc. I think that is some gorgeous rock in that tank! I'd try selling it for $3-4 per lb.

thanks for the info Bryan, much appreciated. i would have no idea how much those rocks would weigh all together but first person with a good offer is going to take them that's for sure. that is a 60 bowfront just for size reference.

Might be worth weighing them out. My best guess would be 75lbs or rock but I could be way off. Try to get at least $200 for them. Not sure what your cousin has into the rock so he may be looking to get more or less.

i'm sure he spent more than that but i know he is trying to get rid of everything SW related. if you knew my cousin you'd be surprised at his "i don't really care" attitude. he was actually thinking of throwing all of these rocks out until i convinced him that he could use that money towards stocking his SW tank. he agreed and delegated the job to me. i am not getting any cut what-so-ever and i just wanted to give fellow SD'ers a chance to get some great rocks for much cheaper than they normally would. please PM me or post interest on this thread.

Ricardo, I'd post an auction on Aquabid and state that it's for pickup only. There should be quite a few people in your area willing to drive 50 miles or so to get some live rock.

Hey Ricardo, before you post a price I'd weigh it out. I just saw a picture of a box of live rock that was 50lbs and it looks like you have over 100lbs in that tank.

Hopefully your plecos and shrimp arrive today. They haven't updated the tracking info yet, which really sucks since it's a service that was paid for. Who knows where the package is at this point. How's the weather?

i will definitely try to weigh it out. how much were they selling the 50 lbs for?

i really hope they do arrive today the weather is actually very good 76F. usually at this time you can already feel the heat. i've tried plenty of times to track a package through USPS and they never really update it like Fedex or UPS does. the good thing about USPS vs UPS is that they deliver at around 11:30-12:00 here so that means i'm still here and not off to work. UPS comes later and my wife usually has to receive packages and she wouldn't know what to do with the fish if they came and only she was here

It was Fiji live rock, which is on the cheap end of the live rock spectrum according to my LFS owner. It was going for $140 for 50 lbs so $3+/lb after shipping like I thought.

Tell her to float the bags for 15 mins and then do a drop and plop with the fish. Maybe pour the plecos into a net and have water go into a bucket or down the drain. Then put the net into the tank and hold it there until their barbels let loose from the net. They will most likely flare out the sides of their mouths and get caught in the net but they will release eventually. Just hold them in the water until they do. Maybe gently wave the net around to let them know they are free. With the shrimp do the same thing with pouring the contents into a net after floating the bag. Then put everything into the breeder net until you get home and can take out the Guppy Grass if you want. Leave some in the breeder net for them to pick at.
