Hello everyone:
This is my first post. I just "ran across" this board tonight.
In the mid nineties, I got bit by "the bug" and started breeding Discus in Kansas City. It was just for fun... I usually just traded them with LFS for equipment. After a while, I got pretty good at it. This was a one-brood at a time operation...like I said, it was just for fun.
Five years ago, I moved to Little Falls, NJ and only started collecting Discus again about a year ago. After a few failed attempts (the water is quite different out here!), I have at long last bred two of my most attractive fish. One is a large male cobalt (7 1/2"
and the other is a 6" female brilliant blue (in my experience, many of the Discus 'names' are for marketing purposes, so I'm sure the brilliant blue has many labels.... but she's got a little brown behind her blue striations).
Anyway, the reason I'm telling you all this is because I'm in a position where I have about 90 fry growing like weeds and they'll need a home soon...probably by July. They're about 1" in diameter and are about four weeks old. I expect their color to come in in about two weeks so I'll know who's a cobalt and who's a brilliant blue by then.
I've read a few posts here, and there seem to be plenty of people willing to sell their Discus, which is fine...there is a cost in raising them after all. However, I was wondering if there was anyone in the area that had some young Discus they'd be willing to trade. I'd also be interested in young adults...actually, I'd consider most any size as long as it was healthy.
At the moment, I have the two adult blues and two adult pigeon bloods. I'm interested in expanding my horizons, as it were. I have a 125 gallon tank that I'd like to fill with a wide variety of strains. The LFS always seem to have to same strains.....I was just looking for something different.
I'm sure there are some out there that would like to buy these guys, which is also fine....as I can't trade all 90! However, I'd like to reserve the 'pick of the litter' for hobbyists that would also like to expand their collection with different strains.
As I said earlier, I just do this for fun, so I don't ship. However, If you have some interesting fish, I might be willing to learn!

I can send pictures soon....right now it wouldn't be worth it as their coloring is JUST starting to creep into their fins. 85% of them are as round as a baseball (the other 15% are little footballs).

PS Little Falls, NJ is about 20 minutes due west of NYC...50 minutes from Stamford, CT...just as a point of reference.
