Do you have a specific brand or type of canister filter in mind?

What size tank?
Is the tank freshwater or salt water?
Do you use tap water, RO, DI or something else?
What temperature do you keep the water?
How many fish are in the tank?
What kind of fish?
What size are the fish?
Is the tank planted?
If the tank is planted, what kind of plants?
If the tank is planted, how many plants?
Is the current substrate sand, gravel, bare bottom or something else?
Will the canister filter be the only filtration in the tank?

We will need to know at least some of those before we can successfully know what type of canister filter you want/need.

How many fish are in the tank? 2 ~ 10
What kind of fish? Discus
What size are the fish? Adult
Is the tank planted? No.
If the tank is planted, what kind of plants?
If the tank is planted, how many plants?
Is the current substrate sand, gravel, bare bottom or something else? bare bottom
Will the canister filter be the only filtration in the tank? Yes.

We will need to know at least some of those before we can successfully know what type of canister filter you want/need.
