Well, update...didn't want people to think i've abandoned this! I've ordered and recieved my filters for the tank. Now all that is left is to get the wood for the stand, and the LED supplies. The LEDs will be my next project, and the stand will come a little bit closer to when the tank is done.
I'm thinking about tank backgrounds now. I've always liked the look of a 3D background, but I'm concerned that it might limit the depth perception in the tank. With a dark or all black background the tank seems to fade off into the distance. With a 3D background its like looking at the bank of the river from the river, which can be good but I haven't decided yet. I've thought about using some car window tint for easy removal and I can darken it as I see fit with more layers or darker material, it also gives me the option to backlight this tank and maybe get a sunset/sunrise type of effect.
hey matt,
sounds like you've gotta great tank plan layed out. i read that your tank is custom from a canadian company and you payed a lot cheaper than you would've with american companies. i just wanted to know if you would be able to give me some info on this company, as i too am planning a wild tank (around 125 gallons). thanks for your help
Thanks. PM Sent ;)
Wow, from now on, this will be my favorite thread on Simply! Love the idea and set up.

Thanks Ouscazz. Got word from the tank builder today, tank was built yesterday and will be ready to ship by late next week or early the following week which is sooner then expected! I definently need to get started on the stand now. The lighting will now come after the stand. This stand has to be the best i've built so far because it will be holding the best tank i've had. Really got to get it level. I'm still torn about the doors for the stand, I might just go the way of removeable panels, I shouldn't need to get under there that much and the whole panel being removed gives me much more room to work when I do need to be under there.
Tank builder should be sending me a picture of the tank in the next few days and i'll post it when I get it.
What about sliding doors?
Talked to the tank company today. They were a little behind but doing the customs paperwork when I called. It should ship out probably early next week.
Still have yet to build the stand. School and work have been keeping me pretty busy. It will get done...sometime. As for sliding doors, its an idea. I kind of want to build the frame and then see what I can do from there before deciding on anything. If worst comes to worst I can always use magnets and full panels. Or bare skeleton and a stage skirt (which is a very possible plan since I might be able to score one from my dad cheap).
So what does everyone think? Worthy of becoming a wild discus tank?? ;) I'm excited. About to pay the second half of the tank and that means it should ship in the next couple days.
