Using Seachem Pond Prime instead of Seachem Prime, help with dosage

Anyone uses pond prime instead of regular prime? How to dose? I am planning to buy 500ml from amazon for 13.99$ right now. Description says it treats 10,000 gallons.

Pond prime is less expensive, if i change my 100 gallon tank water three times a week, i need 2 cups each time x 3= 6 cups prime, this equals to 30ml per week. 52 weeks a year equals about 1.5 liter Prime a year. Prime is cheap, but its not sold here and its hard for me to get it, so i decided i buy pond prime the same volume treats more.

Use the SAFE powder from Seachem, its much cheaper in the long run.

Safe is 25$ for 1 kg, while Prime is 11.66 per 500ml.. So pricewise is the same. How safe is cheaper? Is it the dosage? Btw, description says it is prime in powder form, so contents are the same...

Ok , i figured it out. Safe is about five times more efficient than prime, for the same dosage.. I am buying 250g of Safe.

Directions for 250 g and larger

To remove…

Chlorine: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 1625 L (450 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm).
Chloramine: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 1250 L (300 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm).
Ammonia: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 400 L (100 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm). Do not overdose!


So, given tank is 100 gallon, and i change 3 times a week 100%, i need to treat 300 gallons per week. 50 weeks a year, 15000 gallons per year.


5g safe = 450 gallons
250g Safe = 22500 gallons can be treated for chlorine.

250g should last me more than a year.

Does your tap water have chlorine or chloramines? If its just chlorine then Sodium Thiosulfate will work great and its far cheaper. 1 lb is less than $5.00 and treats about 38,000 gallons.

Idk, thats why i use prime just in case... Btw, i am buying safe this time. 250ml it should last me over a year

Prime and pond prime are the same exact product. Dosing is just different for a pond because there is more surface area. I use safe myself. A kg lasts a very long time.
