How do you guys get crystal clear water? I have a Fluval 405 but it does not seem to be doing its job.

how often are you doing water changes? What is your stocking level? how much do you feed? How large is your tank? All of these things play a factor.

A micron filter and purigen are helpful at polishing the water. I use 400 ml of purigen and a micron filter in my canister in a 55 gallon. I use two hob filters to help remove the larger waste particles.

It will be hard to have crystal clear water and driftwood in the same tank, at least initially. Large, frequent water changes will be necessary to keep it clear.

55 gal tank - i change 30% every day since the fish are new. I plan to reduce it to about once in 2 days and eventually once in 3 days over a period of 2 years.

Personally I don't think you are changing near enough water.
