Most likely its what we call a "discus pimple". Most of the time it just ruptures and leaves a small hole that closes up on its own. Its thought to be related to water quality. Often increasing water changes helps here.

Noticed this today. He still is eating and keeping his fins spread out, but I noticed him kind of popping his gill today. Hope the pic attached properly. Is this a fungus? Doesn’t look like ich, I only see one. He’s acting a little different than normal.

Nothing worth doing is ever easy...
Thank you! I have water ready for a change today. I’ll increase my frequency over the next few days.
I’m going to treat this guy with Prazi. I have a 5 gallon tank setup. Is Prazi better used as a dip or can he be treated in the 5 gallon and remain in the Prazi for the entire treatment process?
Prazi will not help this issue, prazi is a dewormer. What you have going on is the equivalent of a pimple in people.. blocked pore that has a mild localized bacterial infection. They usually go away in a few days without any treatment.

It has progressed to this, is this what happens with a discus pimple? He wants to eat, but then spits out the food. Is this Hole in The Head?IMG_8741.jpgIMG_8741.jpg
It can develop into holes like that but usually they dont get that bad. Im not one to rush to antibiotics but i think if that gets any worse you should use one
. Mardel maracyn 2 or kanamycin. (Kanaplex at pet shops) theres also a thread you should read...

Not to say this is what you have but its possible if this gets worse.

I hope it’s not that! Thank you for linking this article.
Those antibiotics I mentioned are not a bad thing to have on hand... just in case. Please keep us updated.

Can he be treated in the display tank? It’s 120 gallons and has live plants.
It can.. antibiotics will knock back your biofilter but should have minimal effect on plants
