Pat The one in the back is definitely stressed about something and Hexamita is a possibility
I think a hospital tank is a good idea .. bumping up the temp as well. If that doesnt help then I would try metronidazole. ... especially if it starts passing white feces.

Wouldn't white feces be a precursor to behavior like this if it were hex? Could it not just be bullying? Regardless, giving him a separate tank is the place to find out.

White feces usually is one of the first symptoms which is why its a good idea to isolate and observe. But the behavior can precede the white feces especially in newly recieved fish. It really could be any number of things at this point . Could it be just bullying by the group, its possible. But these are all adult wild discus..if healthy I wouldn't expect them to accept being bullied. Theres always weak.fish in a group and this one maybe that fish. Hopefully once in the hospital tank Pat can get a better idea of whats bothering it.

Thanks Al, nice having you and Liz agree with what I suspect too. Metro is on the way (just in case) and the temp is raising. I will also prep a HT just in case.

So I did a WC on these guys and added salt. Also have bumped the temp up. After the WC I walk by the tank and the whole group of RSGs are dark and huddled around the sponge filters. I'm thinking I might need to do another WC so starting prepping for another WC to age and heat the water. Later that same day I walk by the tank and they are dark and still huddled around the sponge filters. So I touch the side of the tank and they all swim over and instantly return to their normal color and start begging...what a bunch of drama queens lol.

I am prepping a smaller tank for a HT, the metro is on the way and I needed another heater for the HT and that comes tomorrow. The affected fish still tries to eat but gets pushed away. So far all poop is still normal looking.

Hi Al, I always age my water between 12 to 24 hours. I am using the smaller of the brute trashcan for aging/heated which I think is about 30ish gallons. The fish are in a 75 gallon so guessing the water changed is between 30 to 40% depending how much I remove. I generally have the water level a little below the inlet tube of the Aqua Clear HOB filter.

Edited to add that I covered the tank with a large dark towel which also could have prompted the hiding/darkening response of the group.

I got the HT cleaned yesterday, filled with water, added aeration and heater. Metro should be here today. The suspect fish is eating better with the increased heat in the main tank but allowing itself to be pushed away by the other fish. It does not seem to be isolating as much however which is a positive sign. I still do not see any stringy poop in the tank which seems weird or perhaps the heat is helping. Also I'm on the fence about the need to medicate also so perhaps observation is the right protocol.

Heat alone worked for me once when I had some fish from Kenny. It shouldn't hurt to wait a few days longer to see if it actually continues to imporve.

Minimum heat of 90 deg. has worked for me also. HTH with these beautiful wild greens. Looking forward to seeing babies. Good luck Pat.
