    Default Mixing Discus and Angels

    What are your collective opinions on the issue of angels being hosts to parasites that do not harm them but are "deadly" to discus? I've seen this mentioned a few times and cannot tell if there's a basis in fact. I'm love to add Altums to my 120 Amazon biotope but do NOT want to risk my wild browns. Your thoughts, articles, references?

    IMHO, ALL fish can potentially harbor parasites. Angels are no more likely to do so than any others. However since angels can also be more aggressive, particularly when eating, it's possible they would stress discus which would leave them more susceptible to disease... Tough to say...

    Zackie;
    I've had angels in with my Discus...not by choice, but lack of tank room. DarkDiscus is right.

    I had no health problems, but the single angel (about 5" in size) kept my 3 Discus (4" to 7" in size) in the corner of the tank at feeding time. Needless to say the angel is gone from that tank.

    JMHO, your mileage may vary!
