Ammonia for Cycling
I was wondering what kind of ammonia you could use for fishless cycling. Can you use regular cleaning ammonia or does it have to be a specific kind?
I saw some Parsons ammonia All-Purpose Cleaner in a hardware store, and I was wondering if this stuff would work. The only problem is that it's blue.

Re:Ammonia for Cycling
Any "clear" ammonia is fine. Stay away from the flavored, err scented I mean, types.

Will this blue stuff work? I think it's colored for safety. Will the artificial coloring do anything to my water?

check your label. If it contains anything but ammonia I wouldn't use it.

Did you give up on the bio-spira idea?

Re:Ammonia for Cycling
Its got nonionic surfactant perfume, color, clarifying agent salts.
What do you mean have I given up on the biospira idea?

Just wondering if you are intending to use the ammonia to feed your bio-spira or are you just going with a slower fishless cycle by using ammonia w/o bio-spira.
btw, I would not use that ammonia.

I'm feeding my biospira with it now because I will not be getting my fish for a couple of weeks.

Re:Ammonia for Cycling
Use only what is called "clear" ammonia. It will state this on the lable.

I gotcha.
Just make sure you use plain old normal, non-flavored, no perfume, ammonia.
