Default why is ro so important?

I have heard a lot about ro and was wondering why is it so important? If it is that important where can I get one and how much is it going to cost me?

One more thing, I have a Penguin 330 Bio-Wheel and wanted to know if this was suitiable for my 55 gallon. I have a carbon filter in it right now, but I don't have any fish in the tank yet. I will be replacing the filters with sponges.

RO is only needed if you are breeding. Otherwise tap water is fine.

You can keep the bio-filter just remove the carbon in the filter and replace with something to hold bacteria You can add the sponge as an additional filter.

Is a 330 big enough by itself for a 55? I don't think so. Either add airdriven sponges or buy an Aqua Clear 500 or less desirable Emperor 400.
